Floatation Foam - Layout boat

I have a buddy that recently purchased a used layout boat (Kabash?). The boat is in good shape, but there is no floatation foam in it, and we've been told that it will sink if it gets water in it and foam isn't added.

What is the best process for adding foam?
What type of foam should be used?

I appreciate all of the input.

Cheap way is to find/ get/salvage, some old dock foam and sorta cut it to shape and jam it in under the bow and stern. it ain't elegant, but it will float you.

May be a stupid question so please forgive my ignorance but will adding more foam cause the boat to sit higher on the water?

Only when it is full of water from a swamping.

no, it only helps to keep the boat afloat when swamped.
Adding Floatation Pods on the boat will help it float higher.

In fact it will float lower, very slightly lower, because of the weight of the foam. Well unless you build a helium filled UFO and shove that under the deck for flotation. That would make your boat float higher.
