flocking decoys and clear coats....

In untradational travis fashion, I made several dozen pintail deeks last year before the season out of old faded mallard deeks, and repainted some old rusted and stained pintail deeks. They looked good, and I actually enjoyed it. I also painted some speck deeks, snows and some hybrid blues... but the pintail armada I'm amassing is the main thingy. Plus Im gonna flock me some mallards, especially tj's full bodies that are showing some serious wear (french made FA brand, not the best investment).. so Im sold on the rustolum as adhesive method as that seems smartest to change deeks from one species to another, plus the cheapest and easiest for me, fowl flocker seems to have da deal on kits (flock in colors I need plus brushes and mask to make it a kit, but basically sans adhesive).. wondering about other companies or something I might need to know.
Also, my painty deeks... I learned real quick flat clear was the answer, as regualr clear was way to bright. Anyone clear new deeks? beforee they can get run down or stained? And if so, what specifally. Im scared to clear a new deek afraid Ill make it too shiny. thanks in advance, travis

Aero outdoors is another good source for flocking and accessories. I use both Flockit and Aero personally.

I'm in the process of re doing my whole spread of old and new to all flocked. I've also repurposed several old dekes that were going to get thrown out, by changing to different species (mallard hen to magnum bufflehead). I took a sawzall to several necks and then repositioned the head to sleepers, preeners and looking sideways just to have some different looks in the spread other than straight ahead.

The flocking to me gives the best realism of a true duck and not have to worry about shine. Good luck with your project.

Kevin, I have not clear coated over flocking. Not sure you would want to, I don't believe it would help preserve the flocking any better as your base coat is what holds it in place. It would also tend to mat it down I have the feeling and take away from the natural non reflective surface.

With that said I have never tried it, so if you have or anyone has it would be interesting to hear the results.

im sorry... i didnt mean clearing over the flocking...the ideal of the flocking is texture, the clear would uindo that. Ive been clearing over the paint. My plans are painting the pinnie, clearing the white and grey parts, and flocking the brown and black... I was wondering if anyone clears NEW plastic deeks, it sure seems to bring the like new back to them, just wondering if from jump if anyone clears. thanks guys
