Floor In Carsten Canvasback

Dave, More questions - I noticed the bow light, which mine does not have. Is that a do-it-yourself installation? Do you have a socket on the stern for the stern light? What do you use to power the lights? Do you also have any interior lights or use a spotlight? Thanks!

John,

I made several mods to the boat. I added a proper bow eye and permanent navigation lights. Also a full length mahogany grassing rail.

The bow light has pvc running to it to serve as conduit for the electric wiring.

The "stern" light is actually an "all around light" (both styles are legal) located next to the oar socket. That way the light pole will clear the mud motor handle when making a sharp turn. I extended the pole height to well above my head when standing. No blinding light in the face at night AND everyone else can see my light from all angles (as it should be).

The electric system is powered by a small 7 amp gel cell battery. The battery sits right behind the support panel and plugs into my switch box. Plenty of juice for the navigation lights. I use a cordless rechargeable light for a spot light when needed. I had planned on adding some LEDs for interior lights but they never got installed.

My primary propulsion was a 6hp MudBuddy mud motor.

Dave

I really appreciate your willingness to share your ideas and the pictures are a huge bonus!! I am fired up to work on the boat and integrate some of your ideas, others I have seen, and some of my own. For me, that is almost as enjoyable as the hunting!!

I would like to know more about your spray dodger. That is not something that I had considered up to this point. Please tell me more?

Also, have had the boat out in any big rough waters? If so, how did it perform?

Thanks Again Dave!!

Dave, I can see under the bow in one picture and I am curious about the bow eye. How is it attached? DId you purchase an actual bow eye or is it a homemade device? Thanks!

It is a purchased bow eye bolted thru using a stainless backer plate on the inside. I believe it was a 3/8 inch stainless U bolt.
