Foam Decoy making?

Phil, A 4x8 sheet of foam is the same as a 4x4 sheet of cork because it is 2" thick and has to be doubled up. I have been told there are 4" thick sheets but I have never seen on in the south. The pink or blue sheet foam is the best for carving but any foam will work. The Cans and pintail I posted were all carved with white bead foam (except for the heads, they were pink foam). I don't know how many decoys 1 sheet would make because I always end up using a good portion making projects for the kids.

The good thing is that my wife can't complain when I bring a sheet of foam home because there is always some other little project to do.

Derek and Scott,
I am impressed for sure. Those will all hunt.
The detail in the heads is very good. All nice work. Are you both using mastic to burlap or something else?

Bob

Yes, they are foam core with mastic/burlap coating. The heads are sandwich style. I changed things up on all the Cans to see what holds up and what doesnt. I went overboard on a few - burlap/2 coats of mastic/spar varnish/Trestle coated/Apoxie Sculpt on wear points/flocked. I don't like the flocking over the Trestle coat. I expect these things to last a long time, with all the extra steps I put into the finishing, they are tanks. I have 7 more of the bodies/heads cut out but I don't think I will have time to work on them before the season gets here.
