Knocked out a dzn today. Got burlap & keels on. I got pretty efficient at it by time I was about 1/2 way done.
I have another dzn cut-out, should be able to get them burlapped and keels on this weekend.
Will paint after they have dried at least a week. Luckily we're having low humidity right now, which should speed up drying.

I'm putting mastic on the bottom of the heads, plus two dowels going from the heads 2" into the body, and putting the heads on after. The mastic to mastic bond is really strong. That is why I am putting them on afterwards.

MAPEI brand, we had 1/2 of a 5 gallon pail left over from doing the bathroom 3 years ago,

Using 1" pine for the heads, simple sillouhettes.

Going to be all divers, 2 dzn bluebills at first, then probably2 dzn redheads.

Nice work Carl!! I can't wait to see them painted as redheads. Do you guys get a lot of redheads down there on the big water?

Thanks!
Most years we dont get a lot of redheads (or cans) on Mobile Bay, just enough to make it worth targeting them. There are certain spots that the redheads seem to home in on, being there on the right day can make for some fine diver shooting.

Back in 2004-05 we had a pile of redheads and cans. Last year was OK. Hopefully this year will be better, we've got more grass (wild celery) this year.

Carl,

I'd think you may have some redheads this year. If the halodule beds in Breton Sound are impacted from MC252, you should pick-up some overflow.

Well, its a sucky way to get a good ducks season, but I'll take it.

We're still working on documenting prop-scarring from all the response activities down in MS Sound. We'll see what that tells us.
But our vallisneria beds up in mobile bay are looking great this year. Still not where we were back in 2001, but getting there.
