That Dude's name is Phil Brown and he's a trapper. I don't think Phil has ever really hunted. He was featured in Outdoor Life last may. They are many trappers I know through out the US and if you would like I'll give the stories also and there catches. I give the rest of the story on Phil later, it's time for some sleep.

He caught about 1200 more red fox than I did during my career as a trapper! Longlining like that is the dream of every young trapper. Very few of us ever get to live the dream.
Whats he getting for his pelts these days & what state is he in?

Now I'd like to clear the air here. Why were the coyote pictures deleted? I just can not figure some sportsman out. You want more ducks well trapping is a wonderful tool for keeping ducks hatching. Trapping is a passion of mine as duck hunting is to some. You see an animal in a trap and you delete it. HMMMM someone takes a picture of there dog making a retrieve with a live duck in it's mouth and everyone praises the dog for a wonderful retrieve.

We all eat from the same table but for some reason trappers always take a pounding from the so called politically correct hunters. This picture is OK???

I didn't see the yote pics and was wondering what everyone was talking about. I doubt Steve or Eric would delete a pic unless it was extremely bad taste or porn... Maybe the size wouldn't allow them to be on with other pics?

don't know why...

Harker, it was a dark colored fox(?) in a leghold trap. He was even alive. Maybe that's why someone deleted it because of the controversy of leghold traps?

I dunno...

interestingly I wondered when someone would say...."why is a live duck in a dogs mouth o.k. but an animal in a trap not"?.....took a little longer than I expected....

So that you "can figure me out" here's a couple of things to help.....

I'm not "anti-trapping", never have been and don't see myself being that way in the future.....If I was I would have deleted the entire thread.......that said I deleted the pictures of the "trapped" coyote because I see absolutely no value in showing pictures of a live animal in a trap on this site.....the reason that the live duck in the dogs mouth is "acceptable" to me, while the animal in the trap isn't is because the duck is being retrieved and the hunter hasn't had the opportunity to dispatch the duck yet while the animal in the trap is in a position to be dispatched.....two completely different scenario's.....

You can be certain that if anyone ever posted a picture of a pile of dead ducks with a live one included in it, or if they had a picture of themselves "posing" with a live one I'd delete that one too.....same thing if Dave decided to post a picture of himself with a live skunk in his live trap getting ready to throw it into the water, or if someone posted a picture of a deer that they had shot but not killed and decided that a picture of it would be neat to post, or anything else that has been shot and recovered but not dispatched, be it Squirrel to Elephant. You want to show it dead in a pile, I'm good with that....live in a trap I'm not.......

You want to show the same animal "dead" then I'm o.k. with that, (as long as its tasteful).

If Eric wants to override me on this one then all he has to do is state that he's "good" with pictures of "live cripples" in hand......if he is then I'll live with that and you are free to post all the photos of that nature that you want to, and that people want to look at........if he doesn't then I'll make the "delete" decisions based on what I consider "right" while recognizing that not everyone is going to agree with them, and that there will be some thatt will be "pissed off", that "can't figure me out", and some that will call me a "bunny hugger" and worse.....

Oh and for the record....I don't consider deleting the pictures as "beating" on the poor misunderstood trappers of the world....I deleted two of five photos and made no derogatory comments about the deleted ones. On your comment about "trapping equals more ducks" I would not disagree except to state that the animals taken by this specific trapper, since they weren't trapped in a duck producing area, have as much to do with producing more ducks as Joe O's comments that shooting live pigeons in a betting arena is a good way to "control" the Pigeon population......show me a picture of that many Skunks, trapped in the SPRING, in the PPR and I'll be the first to applaud the effort.....(although I'd still delete a photo of a live skunk in a trap)....

Steve

Bunny hugger!

just kidding. i didn't agree with the pictures either...nor did my wife who was looking over my shoulder at the time.

I don't see anything wrong with trapping... but i don't need to see an animal in a trap. what do i gain from that photo?
