? for the outboard motor guys

I went through almost the exact problem a couple months ago. My 3hp was overheating. I though the water ports around the cylinder where plugged. I broke 3 of 6 head bolts. For future reference get a reverse twist or left hand twist drill bit. Drilling the bolts out one backed out on its own. I then added pb blaster to finish a second and had to drill and tap the third. To make everything worse, I found the riser tube was just missing the rubber grommet. I as usual turned a 15 min job into a 4 hr job.

It would be so much easier to just go purchase a new motor every 3 or 4 years..... but what fun would that be, right?

Jim,

I broke an ez-out while trying to extract a broken screw from an old Honda motorcycle engine (aluminum case, 8mm thread I believe). Ended up grinding down the broken extractor piece with some diamond bits in the trusty dremmel until I could push the ultra hard steel deep in the hole past the screw end. I then proceeded to drill a bigger hole in the broken scew, and used a magnet to retrieve the broken piece of ez out. Finished drilling and tapping the case, and was back in business. I did ruin several diamond grinding bits, but it was worth it. Good thing the garage walls did not have ears that day; it was a rather frustrating experience. Hope your experience was better.
