just thought i would share this, Finally found myself an alumcraft ducker, was so excited to bring her to a good home, can't wait to get it in the water!!

question: where do i find the production number on it?? I have seen pics of other models with numbers and i have looked but i can't seem to find it.

I can't get pics to load they are too big, anyone know how to shrink them down to get them on here?

Kyle,

Use photobucket. You don't have to change the size. Upload your picture then copy and paste the "IMG" tag that photobucket assigns to your picture in the DHBP "Markup" screen when you're typing you message.

Your gonna have a hoot with it!. There is something that happens when you tuck yourself into a ducker. Like to think they carry a lil bit of the heart and soul of them who gunned before us.

I was given mine (unbelievably free) by a buddy who got it from his Great Grandfather, He was not a waterfowler (at the time).
Since then I was lucky enough to experience a few seasons with her. However, I made the cardinal mistake and got that friend, and his boys, into carving decoys, and watewrfowling.

I felt a compulsion. call it a little voice telling me my buddy should hunt with his boys over their blocks out of her, and last year... I re-gifted her back. It has made for some very cool hunts.

So Enjoy her, and all the history gunning from her entails.

Regards,
B

When I was collecting duck boats I had a hard time finding a ducker. This was before the internet and we relied on getting the word out through decoy show friends abd duck club guys and whatnot . At the time there were only a small number that collected boats so when someone had found something good it got passed through the network. My friend Ron Toth of michigan found one while on his deathbed and made sure he got it for me . I treasured that boat for its history and our friendship. I had it for a dozen years ,using it infrequently, but still would never sell it. I met a fellow one day that turned into a great friend and frequent hunting companion. Out of the blue one day as we were talking duckboats,he said he had been trying to find a ducker and could not believe I had one. Well long story short,he took a job in SD and a couple of days before the moving truck came I dropped the boat off and gave it to him. The only stipulation was that when he was through with it , he needed to gift it to someone else.

Bob,
Very Cool! You just completley changed my opinion of burbanites.... Unless your from Berwin : )

Thanks ed for helping me get the pics on here, i think a paint job and some blind material maybe some 1000d cordura and i will feel right at home in her! Anyone have ideas for a blind for it? i was thinking maybe some simple blind doors like a field blind? I have checked out the ones for the fatboy DP and those are sweet!

I have a buddy who has a "ducker" and I used it for trapping a couple seasons few years ago, loved the boat so stable and works great for going anywhere you want in a marsh, so glad i found one i can call my own!!

Your welcome Kyle. Glad to help. Paint?....Naw, it huntin season! throw some burlap and weeds over it and get going!

Way cool! it looks to be in great condition.
The SN is located near one of the handles.
Also search this site for '48 ducker for more info from alumacraft.

Don't cover up the original paint...you'll hide that thing just fine...That IS the original paint and maintains it's worth with it in the original state. The production or serial number is on the handle casting on one end. It will be a Dxxxx number. It is stamped into the casting. Once you find it..Alumacraft in St. Peter MN can look up the number and tell you how old it is. My guess is between 1952 to 1954. Air boxes are a give away of the 50's vintage boats. Nice find...

I found the number, I emailed alumacraft will see what they tell me......

Ballard , I tried to move to Berwyn but didnt own a bowling ball so they wouldnt let me in.
Kyle, Its a longshot but see if the previous owner had the aluminium oars. They are hard to find but compliment the whole package. I would get rid of the side mount homemade motor bracket, unless you find it usefull. I used the 3/4 straps on the combing to add a few willows in for a blind. I even shoved one in the spud hole wells to stabilize it. Get a strong chain and a lock because that is one boat that guys know its got some value. Great find.

`Congratulations.

As an update to this post (http://duckboats.net/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=173473;search_string=alumacraft%20ducker;#173473)
my young friend Sam's Ducker has been put to good use. He and a friend can carry it from his house down the hill to the Kennebec River, and they were poling and paddling all over this summer in search of smallmouth and stripers.

For this year's youth day, Sam took me in the Ducker to a spot he's been scouting, and he's also been taking out one of his teachers on a regular basis.

It's a more functional boat than I thought at first. It doesn't paddle all that well, but it's a nice boat to stand and pole.

Kyle,

Awesome boat! You will love it. It's light and easy to haul in the back of a pick-up. Be very careful when using rowing oars with this boat, I had the 5' original aluminum oars with both of mine, and the oar locks will fatigue the metal around were they are riveted to the top deck, and the deck will start to crack. use it as a pole boat, or as my son & I used ours, towed out with our Grumman Sport Boat, filled with our decoys, and used as our "hides", after the dekes were set out. We hid the Grumman, and used ot as our "chase" boat, if needed.

I would also rethink mounting a motor, unless a very light electric, on the motor mount, as again, the decking will crack with any heavy weight attached it.

GOOD LUCK... You'll love this boat!!

the motor bracket is definately going, i need to power wash her and get all the mossy stuff off that has been growing on the sides, be interesting to see if it leaks at all? I am sure it does a little but i have another old alumacraft boat and and a little tap on the rivets tightens them right up, can't wait to start cleaning it up....
