Four Rivers 2 man vs Momarsh DP

I am sure this has been asked before but I would really value any opinions biased or not. I am about to add a Third boat to my fleet, I currently own a 24foot Carolina Skiff and a 16 foot River Ox "my favorite" made in the 70's here in North Carolina. I am 6-5 weigh 275 and hunt with my 55 lb Female lab or I don't hunt. I would appreciate thoughts on Durability, fit and finish, stability,etc. I am leaning toward the DP but hunt in salt water a lot and I am a little concerned about the add on transom not a huge deal at 70 bucks to replace every so often but it is a consideration. The Four rivers appears to have a bit of a lower profile in the water and may be an edge if laying out on protected open water. I have been a long time viewer of this site at least 4 or 5 years and have learned a lot from the many long timers here. I know I might be over thinking this - but with $1100 to $1400 after shipping in this current economy I just don't want to regret my choice. Thanks for any replies in advance. Bill
 
If you are concerned about the transom., purchase the regular MoMarsh fatboy. Transom is built in.

Also, if you are worried about corrosion, buy something like the 3M rocker panel spray, spray it all over the metal stuff and it will not rust. Same stuff they use on the underside of cars. Make sure you get the one with all the warnings, not the water based one.

I just recently bought my first boat. Went with the Four Rivers 9'6", I wish I went with the Momarsh.
Also I think I would rather be able to replace a broken transom than figure out how to repair a built in one.
Just my 2 cents.

Bill, the salt should not be an issue. The transom is aluminum and all of the hardware is SS. The only part of the whole apparatus that is steel is the crossbar for the short door blind. If profile is an issue, being able to remove a vertical transom is an advantage. I rarely hunt with the transom on the boat as it sticks straight up.

Also, FYI, shipping to NC with crating will be in the $270 range.

I was just going by what the Spec's say on the the Four Rivers Web Site - Are the Spec's quoted not accurate ? - The large boat measures 13' 6" in length with a beam width of 50
 
I live in Zebulon and hunt some behind my house as I have two Beaver Ponds - it has been pretty poor this year for some reason. I mostly hunt out of Swan Quarter on days off. I bought 150 acres 2 years ago and it has about a Mile and half of shore line. As a matter of fact just got back from hunting this morning with my son's - 4 teal 4 Rudy ducks and a Drake Buffy-A very pretty bird. Not ideal conditions with the fog and heat but all in all a good day on the water.

Yes thats the one, I owned one, I'd avoid it.
 
Add another option to ya.

I just got a old 1960 Herters Goose-Duck model. it is 13' long, stable and low profile.

Hunted two out of it no problem over teh weekend.

I really like it, and if you can find one, much cheaper than 4 rivers or momarsh.

I have no complaints about my 14' Four Rivers hull. When I bought it, it wouldn't have mattered to me if it was one of Ira's or a Four RIvers, for $400 with a trailer. Now, I'm not sure what is so much better about one or worse about the other, for their intended purpose....but I'm 225#, have an 85# lab, and mine has a home-built 5hp longtail hanging off it that likely weighs at least 70#, and (thus far) I have no reservations about it...but I'd hit the river or big water in neither of them....backwater boats ONLY. I'd own a Momarsh in a heartbeat, but it wouldn't be because anything was wrong with this Four Rivers that was somehow right with the Fatboy.
