Front Row Seat---Part I

A couple of days ago I decided to see if I could get a few more shots of the "light geese" before they start winging it north. I had been cutting firewood all morning, made a delivery in the early afternoon, and decided I needed a break. I arrived at the farm around 2:30PM and sat there for maybe 45 minutes with nothing going on. I guess I was too early. Well, the wind was from the south and I could faintly hear the sounds of snow geese that were coming from the refuge, so I went back to the truck and drove maybe a mile to a pond on the west side of the highway. It was hear that I took these twelve shots.

A good looking snow goose with some harsh light unfortunately.

A Ross' goose sounding off in stride.

Then within a split second the entire flock decided to explode off that pond and it got quite chaotic for a while.

It then looked like the entire flock was coming back.

But then at the last second they veered off to the right and I just had a hunch that they were about ready to go back to the farm where the winter wheat field is and eat. I took these last two shots and jumped in my truck and drove as fast as I could to get to the farm.
