Fuel tank grounding on wood boat

Got ready to install a new custom aluminium fuel tank in my Scaup and realized the manufacturer had put what appears to be a ground screw on it. Could anyone shed some light on what to do with the ground, assuming that's what it is?

Thanks.

John, I think that might be a ground for a fuel guage, Possible? Another thought is that a portable tank is not grounded. Maybe someone has some other thoughts. I'll be watching.

In Stephen Pollards aluminum boat building book he says that the tank needs to be electrically bonded to the hull. Not to battery ground, but to the hull.

Not sure what you'd do with a glass/wood boat...

John, send an Email to Devlin. Is the tank mounted so that the gas nozzle will come in contact with the fill neck of the tank,or is the fill cap remoted to the gunnel, with a flex, non metalic hose in between? If so it may need a ground wire between the two,but I would check with a builder that routinely installs remote tanks.

Use a "grounding block" from your local Boaters World.

Run (1) one cable from the tank to the block.

Run a second cable from the block to the negative post on the battery.

You can also run all negative cables (running lights/spot light/ etc) back to the block.

This is a much more efficiant way to ground all types of boats.

Even though it takes an extra run of wire, I ground all the boats I rig (including my own) back to a block.

When you have a grounding problem, you only have to look @ one place, your grounding block!!!
