Full Body Duck Decoys...

Just to keep the thread hijack going....
I cut out all sweet drinks when I was losing weight, yep: ALL. No cokes, no juice, no sweet tea, etc....
Kept all junk food out of the house: no chips, no ice cream, nothing.
Started eating a healthy breakfast, a big lunch and the kicker Dinner. Cut the dinner portion way back. Usually just a protein and a salad & veggies for dinner. Maybe a little carbs.
There were nights when I had terrible cravings, could have eaten shoe leather, but you have to power through it.
And the first 6 months I was walking 2 miles every evening.
My metabolism seemed to change over time, now I don't have to watch what I eat as much as I did then, but my wife has us eating healthier anyway. I still try to walk 1.5 miles in the mornings too.
Kevin, keep it up, you will be glad you did!

Totally agree ! I drank nothing but water and cut WAY back on the beers!! Instead of 6-8 beers with the wife around the firepit in the back yard every friday and sat, it was maybe a beer or 2 and lots of water, maybe a snort of fireball !!??!! I actually went into the Dr for a blood pressure check after not eating right for most of the duck season and I had only gained back 4 pounds of the 25 I lost!!??? I told him you better check your scale because I have been eating whatever I want for a few months now. He told me your body got to a level of being full when you were dieting, and now your body still thinks its full after eating. So after eating the diet portions for so long, my gut naturally was full after small portions, I couldn't believe it. and he was right, once you train your body to eat right, your body kinda takes over, that is if you can fight the urge to down a big bag of BBQ chips or slam 5 pieces of pizza instead of 2 !!! I really noticed it during the first part of duck season. I was not near as tired and sore after a long day huntin, I didn't get those damn leg cramps anymore in the middle of the night and I felt well rested after 5-6 hours sleep instead of 8 or 9 like when I was heavier. So ya, it def gets easier and better, glad I am doing it and recommend dieting to any of you other chubby duck kilin fools like me ! LOL..boat doesn't lean as bad on my side now either !! LOL

how bout this to make it duck related... when i got skinny and healthy, im much more likely to use full body decoys and a ghillie suit to kill birds instead of hunting the easyest way possible??? hehe. and when hunting in the blinds or pitwith everyone, i like the 1/4 mile run in waders when i go park the 4 tire now. travis

Very true Kyle ! We did stray a bit from any talk of full body ducks !! Ha Ha. I realized this when I started feeling like a school girl cuddled up on her bed writing.." dear diary " LOL but hey, a little feel good moment I guess for a couple middle aged , over weight duck shooters from time to time is ok I guess !!??!! I'm still by the way, looking fior the right full body ducks. I know I can go with the GHG mallards or pins, and mallards and pins always work...but I wanted to mix in some wigeon to the spread for human eye candy I guess and didn't know if anyone listening had any input on the quality of the only 2 full body wigeon makers I can find...Blue Collar and Tanglefree

I gotta keep the hijacking going. I have never been overweight but I never took care of myself either. I ate whatever was there and for the most part just didn't overeat. About 2 years ago my wife and I started looking more closely at our diet and eating real food. My wife found out that she is pretty intolerant to gluten. I make juice every morning and have since cut gluten out of my diet as well. I feel 1000% better. Then last spring I threw out my back for the unptienth time. I started stretching and got an inversion table. This was the first season in 15 years that I could walk in the muck without major pain in my knees and shoot without pain in my neck. Not only that but my shooting improved greatly. It makes what we do so much more enjoyable. My dad is my role model when it comes to this. He is 64 and will out hike anybody up and down the canyons in eastern oregon chasing chuckars or deer. About 5 years ago he started riding a bike and swimming. I asked him why all of the sudden he started being so concerned about being in shape and managing his weight. His answer was "I don't have as much time in the field as I would like but when I get it I want to enjoy it and it's just not fun when you hurt"

On the actual topic of the thread I have been thinking about adding some full bodies for hunting the lower Columbia and the bays on the coast and this sealed the deal. I like a lot of widgeon in my spread anyway.

Travis

Thanks for dropping in and giving us an update. I'd been wondering how you were doing and figured you passed another couple or 50 kidney stones. Maybe the new diet helped on that problem too. Good to see you haven't lost your sense of humor about life.

Eric

In my opinion, the older I get...the smarter I get, life lessons that is. I'm much more aware and cautious of the things I do and the grub I slam down the hole in the last 10 years probably. It's amazing how the good Lord and Mother Nature will take care of the dumbys that take care of themselves. Simply eating right and a little exercise have made my body and mind a much better unit in the last 10 years. Kind of reminds me of a saying my old man used to run by me once in awhile after I turned 18...you know...the story about the young bull and the old bull up on the hill top watching over the herd of cows..the young bull wants to RUN down the hill and do what bulls do to one of the cows...and the old bull simply says..NO..lets WALK down and do them all !!!
I guess with age comes smarts !!

Kevin, I did answer your question about Tanglefree. If I get back over to Bass Pro, I'll take a picture, but they didn't impress me at all.
Better than nothing, maybe, but...only maybe?

Eric, my stones have greatly improved. My doctor was shocked last ct scan, in fact schedualed me for a year out instead of customary for me 6 months. First time in 15 years Ive had a scan and it was great instead of 'good for me'. Between a med I take thats reversed some of the phosphate leak from my kidneys, I was already doing better and shedding some of the extra meds, but cutting out all the processed foods and junk my body had to filter, i actually had fewer stones than the scan before.. no new stones, passed some small ones, and the big boy actually shrank ( 15 x10 mm now, hes been as big as 28 x 18 mm, went after him twice at about 45k a pop!). Last procdure I had was almost 3 years ago now, (an attempt to take down big boy , a 15mm probe with cameras and lazers rooted all the way up to upper poe of my right kidney) ... Not saying ill never have another procudre, but 2 and 3 years between is sure a lot better than every 3 or 4 months!
Eating real food changes everything... and Im eating ninja snacks and hydrating as i speak!
