Gentleman, I believe we need archives and need everyone's help.

After seeing a post this morning and while visiting with Steve Sanford earlier this month, we talked about how great of a site we have here. Respectful and knowledgable people, stories, and a wealth of information regarding the sport we love and everything that goes along with it.

Steve mentioned how nice it would be to have the whole site archived and broken down into sections such as boat builds and rebuilds, decoy carving and how to's, hunting stories, an updated member rigs section, etc, etc. I'm sure there are many more we can think of.

I know Chuck and Eric are both extremely busy and do a great job moderating with what they have on their plate already. So I have an idea and I'm not sure it will work but at the least we will have a few helpful threads.

I am proposing that we start a few threads, each pertaining to a specific subject. Then we need the members to go back in the history and find your favorite threads, threads you have posted, or ones you know the whereabouts of that pertain to the specific subject. Well try and keep the conversation to a minimum as to not clog the thread. Just the link and a description of what t is. Maybe then it will be easier to make them into their own sections. Or at least stickies.

What are everyone's thoughts on this idea? Is it possible that this could work? Or am I just dreaming?

Tom, this would be a great idea, but a huge job to really get it right.

Perhaps it just reflects my cluttered mind, but I have found that using the search function here makes it pretty easy to bring up old posts I can vaguely remember, and usually a bunch of useful posts that pre-date my time here or that I missed when they first showed.

great idea- but the execution is the question

like Jeff- I often use the search function- and will come up with 50 pages or more of links- 20 post to a page on a specific decoy question

you may need to sub divide the information gathering--

such as

decoys - cork, wood, decorative Vs working, painting and so on

and boats by size or type- new build or restoration

Good point Jeff and I feel the same I love the search function, but sometimes I just don't know what I want to look at. Kind of like having a guide with cable. Without it, there's hundreds of channels and I have no idea where to even start. This could be a far fetched idea, just looking for other opinions.

Yeah, I skip the cable guide and just flip channels, too. Drives my wife nuts, but suits my inclination for random inputs. LOL.

I don't like the idea. We have had this discussion before and this format is Eric's vision and it has worked well. We don't need a bunch of clutter.
