Getting closer to early teal season

Al
Thanks, It seems when the seasons come around that we go regardless of physical problems. That's why our wives have called us "crazy" :-). Your posts on your dogs and training them sets the bar high for hunters with new dogs in need of help and that's as it should be and kudos to you for that. Enjoy your opening day.

Al I think I'll survive. :) Just a little frustrated with our bonus teal just disappearing without a word. Could go goose hunting now but with it in the 90s last weekend it just didn't feel like hunting weather.

We should be setting up to be a good fall for both ducks and pheasants. It is so nice not to be talking about widespread drought here.

BTW I like those muddy dog photos.

Tim

That is great news, Tim, to know that things are still green and with water in the sloughs. Good luck.

Thought you might like these. The birds had a good breeding season and of course the Cooper's Hawks need to eat also.

Glad you like muddy dog shots. Makes me want to see some pics of Deuce in full fall training soon!

These shots of the rollers were a few years ago.

Al, It won't be long now. On the drive to work this morning I noticed fresh snow on some of the mountain peaks. The ponds around here are absolutely full of teal ready to move on the first sign of cold weather. Friday night it is supposed to get down to about 40 F and soon we will have frost. I hope a few stick around for our season opener.

As Paul states, not long now...we have a "Fall pattern" low rolling-into the Great Lakes over the next two days. Karen was walking her Morgan around one of the back pastures at Willow Farm, where she boards, on Monday she saw a new flock of 22 lesser Canadas. Yesterday they had grown to 33 birds. We should start seeing a build-up of non-mating giant Canadas drifting down from Ontario over the next two weeks prior the early goose opener.

Those white flights really make a pigeon pop.
What is that front bottom bird in the last two photos?

Tim

I appreciated that compliment, Shawn. Back in the middle 1940s my grandpa put a squab in my hand and ever since I have loved pigeons. At one time I was raising about 600 of them with close to 50 varieties. Well, common sense kicked in and now I have about 30 rollers and homers.

My all time favorite shot of a pigeon.

Hey Paul,
It is good to hear that you are seeing termination dust on the Rockies. That is a good sign. Make sure you send some of those ducks in Alberta down our way. We happen to get quite a few from the southeastern part of your beautiful province.
Al

Rick that sounds exciting to me. We were told that there was a cold front moving in yesterday. Well, the prior day's temp was 102F and then it dropped to 95F. I guess that was our cold front.

Good to hear about the lesser Canadas.
Al

Tim, my good friend Fr. Dennis gave me that red. I believe it was a recessive hen. Never did get anything from her because a Copper's Hawk got in line first!
Al

I had to take a few flying shots but I'm no Al Hansen when it comes to pigeon photography.

And to keep with the original intent of this thread, Deuce's first duck retrieve. A Blue Wing my nephew shot last year during the youth season. That's about as close as we get to a teal season up here.

I just pulled the weather report for the area slightly west of here and it looks like this.

Rain. Amount 10 to 20 mm. Snow level lowering to 2100 metres near noon. Temperature falling to 6 this afternoon.
Tonight Mainly cloudy with 30 percent chance of showers early this evening. Clearing late this evening. Snow level 2100 metres. Low minus 2.

We have frost warnings on the prairies of Alberta for tonight. Those teal could be moving any day now.

Those are some very cool shots, Tim. I see you enjoy that sport of watching them fly. Thanks for posting them. Deuce is a handsome boy especially with that bluewing in his mouth. Great shot.
Al

That is some wonderful news. I will look forward to those temperatures to start to dip. Any time soon down here would be good enough. The way the temps have been here in Aug. I fear that this month will also be the hottest on record or darn close to it.

Thanks, Paul. When does you duck season open?

Al, cold is a relative thing in your chunk of the USA! Fall pattern is definately starting to set-up here. Karen and I grabbed a couple of Babycakes muffins and climbed Sugarloaf Saturday morning. A cup of coffee and a fresh muffin ate well looking down on the Lake Superior coast...and, then a flight of Canadas came across the lake to remind me of why we live here.
