Alabama opens tomorrow, I wont be going.
4:00 this afternoon, I figured out I forgot to get my fed duck stamp. None of the places I could find open has them.
Boy, do I feel like a dumb-a#$!
Oh well, the weather will be better on Saturday anyway.

I know it is too late now, but for future reference----if you had a National Wildlife Refuge close by they normally sell federal duck stamps. They are used as a pass to get into any of the NWR's free in the US.

I feel your pain, I drew the holiday shift this week and have been working days all week. Our season opens tomorrow and I will be plugging away at the steel mill.

Have you tried walmart? I know ours here sells them and with them opening at like 4 in the morning you could almost be there when it opens, get your stamp and if your spot is close you might be there by first light. Just a thought but I know how it feels to not be making opening day.

Had something similar happen to me a few years back.
Bought my stamp etc and hunted the early goose.
Opening day duck, went to put everything in my wader pocket and the only thing I'm missing is the fed stamp. Must have dropped it somewhere.
Everything was loaded in the boat. My son and his 2 buddies were ready to roll.
Ran them out to there "honey hole" and then backed way up with the sled and watched the action from back aways. It was almost as much fun as hunting.
At 9:00 I left them there and headed to the Store (tried PO first but they weren't open). Found a sportings good store that had some.
Bought the stamp and headed to the spot. The boys were a bird short of limit and it took me about an hour to catch up with them but, we got it done and everyone had a chance at shooting and being a spectator before the day was over. Imagine, I had three callers while I filled my limit.
Maybe a late start wouldn't be such a bad thing, rather than nothing.
Good luck whichever day you start.

Its 71 degrees at 6:30 am and there is a line of storms around an hour away.
Probably good that I didnt go after all.
From our biologist out on the water, I am not missing much. They havent heard much shooting at all.
With the colder weather and north winds that will arrive after lunch, it should be better tomorrow.
Now I just have to get to the post office or Academy and get my stamp. Our local Walmart no longer carries them.

Carl,

Here in Florida some of the rules and regs are pretty strange plus there are NO stores in my area that cater to duck hunters which I'm not use to. I went to the tax office to buy my lic and stamps. Someone else on another site was complaining his fed stamp didn't come in the mail. I got to thinking and I looked at my lic on the strip that showed I purchased a federal stamp. It showed a date stating this receipt was good from date to date and I was suppose to get my stamp in the mail as well. Panic set in thinking I've hit every post office in a three county area that I could find and NO FEDERAL STAMPS! Well Dani called the FWC in Tallehassee and pleaded my case. Here's one of those strange rules. The Commander told Dani as long as there's a receipt I can hunt even though the lic specifically said from date to date. On a happy note I had called the 1-800 number on the lic and they gladly sent me a replacement stamp which arrived a couple of days later. Next year I will be ordering my fed stamp myself. http://www.duckstamp.com/mm5/

Have a good season. How's that Starcraft coming along?

Ed,

Didnt end up buying the Starcraft, the interior turned out not to be inthe shape the add claimed/pics showed. The floor was re-done by someone who obviously did not do a professional job, the benches were shot, etc... To me, not worth the time or money needed to fix it up.
My plan now is to stop looking (just toturing myself!), hunt my current boat this season and then sell the whole rig in February.
I will then have cash in hand to buy what I really want.
Right now I am leaning towards holding out for a Grumman 145SS, I really like that hull & layout. Even if it takes all spring & summer, I should be able to find one like I want. Based on recent posts on craigslist, there are a lot more of them out there than I realized.

At 6:30am it was 71 degress.
Now, at 8:37am it is 58 degrees and still falling.
I am betting we'll get some more ducks down on the north wind & full moon tonight.
I'll be at the ramp at 4:00 am in the morning!

My regular partner made it out.
Other than dealing with some opening morning yahoo's, he & his dad had a great hunt.
Had their limit of gadwalls by 7:50 and made it to the dock before the heavy rain came.

Carl,
Amazing what a pain it can be to get a Fed stamp. I too waited until the day before our opener, and found out the closest post office was out. They were kind enough to tell me they had more on order and I could check back in a week or two. Fortunately, one of the other post offices in the area had some. Never again will I wait until the week before season to get a stamp.

Hope you have a great season!
