Good luck and be safe

MN hunting starts tomorrow 30 minutes before sunrise which is a first for us in many years (this early in the season and this early of opening shooting time). I'm sitting here at work and counting the hours until I can get out of here and hit the road. We have 8 in our group this year and have a group of 4 out scouting the potholes as I type this. Reviews coming in have been mixed (real high water all the way to no water). According to the DU App, the migration has begun (who the heck are these people who write in this stuff?). Weather is suppose to be fair and the wind tomorrow is out of the SE at 10 mph which makes it perfect for one spot we did well at last year.

Nothing new this year to bring duck hunting. I did get the Pure Duck duck call fixed - thank you Ketih Allen, so it will be nice to blow a real call again. Son has a new 12 gauge 870 that I'll be bringing along as a back up gun but other than that, nothing new. I sold my pick up this past weekend and the replacement vehicle is not anticipated until early next week sometime. This means I won't be able to bring the Hoefgen as it just doesn't work well on an car I'm driving and I don't have room for the extras this requires anyway. Looks like we will be using a kayak this year to retrieve th ducks which is a bit scary.

So, I figure I'll be hitting the road around 12:00 noon and be out to the lodge around 4 - 4:30. Captain Morgan in hand approximately 1 minute after I walk in the front door. Duck appetizers 1 hour after that. Steaks and potatoes soon to follow.

Best wishes to all heading out today and to everyone hunting tomorrow. Be safe and enjoy the time in the field.

I live essentially on the line between Maine's North and South zones, so I am in the middle of multiple "openers". I took a kid out for the youth day in the north zone last Saturday. We saw a few ducks and he got a couple of long shots, but it was over pretty quickly.

I'm taking him out again tomorrow for the south zone youth day. I was out last night to put my sculling boat on a friend's dock for the early season and took a quick look around. There were many many ducks, including lots of bluewing teal, which are usually mostly gone by the time we can hunt here. Tomorrow should be fun. Weather is looking about perfect. Light winds, some drizzle, a little fog, but no serious rain. Should keep the ducks flying all day.

Then the real opener for the north zone is Monday morning, and the real south opener is next Saturday. It should be a fun week!

Be safe out there and good luck, send pics!

I like where I live now, on the Mississippi River and can hunt both Iowa and Illinois. Teal season in one state and a short 4-day season in the other....then opening days on separate weekends in October....and the fact I see more ducks here than i ever did in NC is also a bonus!

Good luck Mark and be safe.

Had plans to go out tomorrow but work put a monkey wrench into that idea. I did get word forom the factory that my new Fatboy will be here next week so I have a lot to do before I head north for a hunt up home.....;-)

Take care and I'll be lloking for Pics.

what????

Mark you are hunting MN opener INSTEAD of the WI opener???? you mean you don't want to wait until 9 to hunt?

We are now offically the last state in the union to not start at the normal time. Once your state "rolled" we are left as the last loosers.

Good luck, hope you do well. Careful in those kayaks...

Captain and seven is my summer drink at the cottage!
