Oregon, one bull is a stunning 8 x 9! It's hard to believe these guys made it through the season alive. Must have been on a privaye ranch. Thought I'd pass it along for Sikorske and others that like seeing big bulls somewhere other than in Jaclson Hole in winter. We got a couple elk in Oregon too.

...during the strafe, Lee, at least the ensuing avalanche would bury 'em and you could take your time hauling out the quarters between now and Spring.

to go shed hunting in a couple more weeks, eh?

Lee, I have always liked Jim Zumbo and will continue to watch his shows, because I can understand what he really meant to say, but it came out wrong in his wording. They are fun guns to shoot and are seen at many matches, but I have no real use for one. But, Jim, in his position should keep his opinions to himself about them. He was just not thinking at the time.

My buddy with the cabin & .50 BMG also has a class 3 and we have shot his stuff until barrels get too hot or I get tired of loading magazines. One time on his place we started the morning with a small Datsun pick up and within an hour we reduced it to a heap of junk metal. The 16 was fun, the M-14 had too much recoil to really enjoy, but my favorite was the WWII 9mm Sten Gun...SWEET!

Back in the '60's when I had my German G-3 and could get surplus 7.62 Nato by the foot locker full cheap, it was a fun gun to shoot when you could get out in the middle of no-where in the desert mountains and could shoot without worrying about it.

Today I would rather own a couple nice qaulity shotguns than a truck load of military guns. But, I do respect the people that enjoy shooting that stuff wheather it be on a range or just out for some fun . It's just a type of weapon that I personnaly don't feel the need for in hunting I enjoy.

Wow Dave,
I will never forget the year I got to pass through Jackson with the snow down. Those big boys put the dream of elk hunting firmly in my mind. Because of my remote location to any sort of elk hide-out I can only read about the hunting at this time and tend to enjoy the older writing the best. That combined with a 1903 CMP '06 a friend of my dads gave me when I was 5 to wind up my slightly left leaning dad during the Viet Nam conflict, mean I will probably not be taking my first shot with a more modern setup.
PS. traded that rifle for cash to get my first car......if you ever see it you will now because I am sure it is still saying, "Dumb move Bob." every where it goes. If you see a nice one at your shows keep me in mind.

I would love to be sneeking thru those trees with my longbow.

I read the thread about Zumbo. I have no issue with the "assault guns" on the range or for competition. However, I
don't think they belong in the field hunting game. BECAUSE to the average John and Jane Doe riding down the road and they see a hunter heading into the woods with a rifle of this nature all they know is it's an assault rifle capable of spraying many rounds in a few seconds. I just think it paints the wrong picture. I don't own one and probably never will. I had my fill in the military. The only rifle I own is a Ruger#1 in .270. I do 99% of my big game hunting with my longbow.

Dave, I liked Zumbo too, I have his book "Hunt Elk". But I won't associate myself with him by watching his shows or buying anymore of his writing. I liken it to me going to Homo Despot to get lumber to build my own house..why support the competition? It wasn't just a slip of the tongue as he didn't apologise for the way he thought..just that he blurted it out in public. I would have deer hunted with my H&K 92 back when I was into Black guns...and HAVE hunted with the Garand..when I was 16.. both are too heavy to comfortably carry around in the woods..we can't use .22 cal in Michigan and I wouldn't have used the AR15 shorty that I had even if I could have..not because of what I thought someone would have thought..but there are better guns for the job. If I ever go deer hunting outside the shotgun only area in Michigan again, I would probably take my little full stock Ruger in 250 Savage or my Model99 in 358...or my A-bolt stalker in 30-06..or my other Ruger full stock in 308...or my Ruger rechambered to 358 Hawk..or maybe grandpas old 30-30 Mod94...then again..I may make everyone within 2 miles hit the dirt with my 375H&H Whitworth Express....maybe I'll just sell all of them and get a nice SXS, stay home and shoot a corn fed deer with my Encore, 870 or White Mountain Carbine.

Hey Parks, that little sten gun is neat. I've always wanted to fire one. I think they called them the "plumbers delight" or something along those lines. As I recall, they were so simple to make that the polish militia was actually making them out of readily available materials...like PIPES!

Dave, those are just the ones I'd take deer hunting. I would love to shoot a Sten gun..or a Greasegun..or a Thompson. Man I could sure get into the retirement account if I had one of them. I shot the snot out of my H&K's 308 and 223 and the shorty AR was fun with a 30 rd mag and a sand bank..but man my arm was sore from reloading on my single station Lyman press!
