GPS tracking

Hey guys, I'm looking for some input here.... I hunt a tidal marsh and was wondering if there was any preferred GPS unit, or even phone app that you guys use to mark the "deep" water? Where in theory you can record a track line as you transit the channels at low water and save it to follow at a later time when it's not so obvious where good water is?

Cheers,
Matt

i have three Garmins- one dash mounted nuvi in the truck, and a pocket explorist plus an e-trex as a backup in case I forget batteries - they have all performed well

I had two different Magellans - neither lasted very long

You want to save a "track." Just about all units over $130 will have this as a feature. It tracks your position as a dotted line and you can then save that line and bring it up if you need to run along it again.

If you have a smart phone with a GPS chip, the app "Gaia GPS" will do what you want, although it's not quite as user friendly as the better GPS units. On the other hand, it will only cost you $20.

There are also some free GPS apps, but when I investigated them I got a lot of advice that it was worth paying the $20 for Gaia.
