Spartina patens and alternaflora are invasives on the west coast.
Funny related story:
At one of our restoration conferences, the presentation prior to mine was by a San Francisco area biologist on how they are trying to control Spartina to help rail populations in the Bay Area.
I then got up and told all about how I was restoring marshes in coastal Alabama, planting Spartina, which is a great benefit to, wait for it, you guessed it, rails!
I told her to pull up all the Spartina plugs she could and ship them back to me and I would put them to great use.
