green cedar for carving, need drying advice

I use cedar for heads because I just have a lot of it. Pine is good but basswood is even better.
 
I carve lots of heads out of cedar, mainly 'cause I have lots of it and I hate to waste it. Pine is easier to carve and takes detail better. I have 2 completed flattie buffies at home with red cedar heads. Holy Smokes were they hard to carve. Not because of the detail or anything, the wood itself is just plain hard compared to white cedar.
