Gromets

Wondering how to attach them to a fiberglass Sneak Boat. The boat is old and has grommets on it but they don't attach real easily. Nor do they detach well, pulled two clear out of the thing the other night. So I guess I have two questions:
1.)Is there a way to get the gromets working more smoothly?
2.)If I decide to replace them where do I buy them and how do I attatch them?

Andrew,

You surely must be referring to something other than a grommet. A grommet is not designed to attach and detach. It is just a re-enforcement for a hole.

There are a whole slew of different fasteners used on a boat. If you can give us a picture or better description of what you are talking about, I sure we can give you a helpful response. Until then, we would only be guessing.

If you are talking about snaps and in f-glass use small mollys or drywall anchors (plastic expanding type) to gain the grip in the glass - should work.

My guess.... he is asking about snaps.

That would be my guess also......Dot Snaps. Do a search. If using grommets & twisties, you'd need a tool to install the grommets...either purchased or fabricated.

Andrew, the snaps are available all over the internet.... be sure to buy SS, and use SS screws with backing washers or fender washers under the deck. It will cost a little bit for all the SS hardware....

Look here for starters.... http://www.mcmaster.com/#button-snaps/=465dt8

After installed, keep them clean and slightly greased to keep them working smoothly.
