Grumbacher Oils

I think it important to point out that not all Michael's retail outlets are not the same size so some of the colors might not be available at the closest one to you.

With that said I would think about starting out with these colors.

Unbleached Titanium White
Raw Sienna
Burnt Sienna
Burnt Umber
Ivory Black
Ultra Marine Blue
Pthalo Blue
Pthalo Green Light or Pthalo Green Dark
Naples Yellow
Flake White --contains lead

Now if you go into a Michael's this week they are going to give you a 40% coupon for next week on a single item. Then start thinking what extra colors you might like to have that were too expensive.

I will point out though that Dick Blick has the paint at roughly 40-50% of the retail price everyday. But you have to pay shipping and wait for it and you can't open up the tubes and look at the color.

Now once you fellows who are on the fence about making the move to oils do give them a try then we can start to discuss the differences in the different grades and brands. And how you use them do get different effects.

But that is a subject for another time.

I'm not on the wild side just yet! Give me some time.

Thanks for the heads up John. There just happens to be a Michael's just down the road from where I work. I'm like Terry, in that I've been setting myself up to venture into oils. Several weeks ago, Hobby Lobby had a 40% off coupon and I treated myself to a set of Grumbaucher's paints. It contained 10 tubes of the same grade of paint in the basic colors. I'll use this special to round out the set with some of the more exotic colors needed for decoys. I also took advantage of a recent home improvement project for the wife to get some spar varnish and other sealing and base coating items. I've got several birds that if I can get a free weekend, they should be ready for paint pretty soon.
