Grumman Freighter

Anybody have pics of the 17' and 19' Grumman freighters or a link to a website w/ pics? Google search has not produced anything. Thanks for any help.

Thanks Jeff. I was under the impression that the 17 and 19' freighters were essentially 17' and 19' Sport Boats. Apparently not so.

I have a 19 square and its a great rig. Check out the Alaska Canoe Forum. They specialize in freighter canoes and the 19 square. They have special mods that are unique to Alaskan bush country. Lots of pics. bob

I got one last year but its a Y back meaning the transom is smaller and you retain the bow shape of the canoe on the back. Its 19 feet long and truly is a freighter. I had to break my personal rule and paid 150.00 for it 50.00 over the limit for any canoe but I think I will let myself off the hook.

Bob Welsh -
Earlier in the summer when Dwight Harley inquired about square stern canoes, you made the following comment, which is akin to your post on this topic:
"I also have a 19 grumman square with a lift. The old timers at Grumman(now Marathon) canoe said to me that the 15 sportboat and the 19 freighter are the same hull + - 4 ft. Ill tell you the 19 square is one all around boat."

That piqued our interest in a "bigger" sportboat.

After perusing the Alaska Canoe forum you mentioned, I'm thinking the freighter hull is narrower than the sportboat, but I plan to do more looking around there. Maybe just register and ask those guys - seemed like a neat site with some guys doing great trips that would be very replicable here in Nordern MN.

I guess the question becomes . . . is the 19 square and the 19 freighter the same boat?

It's tough to find info on boats no longer made, so if anyone has more commentary or pics, they would be greatly appreciated!

The 19 square and the 19 freighter are the same boat. I picked up a sportboat earlier this summer for a friend and had the sportboat and the 19 square side by side. The sportboat stays wider all the way to the stern while the 19 tapers quite a bit like ,well a canoe. I believe the man at the factory said that the two hulls came off the same bending form, but the sportboat finished is a couple of inches wider.
