Had a HOT goose opener this morning.

By hot I mean temperature wise, not goose movement. It started out slow but at about 7:30 a few geese started getting up and we managed to get three. This was my first hunt over my new cedar goose blocks that Rich and Kyle Hohler carved for me. They rode great on the water and I'm very pleased with them......Thanks guys! I will attach a pic of a couple of them.

How did everyone else do?

Canvas and I had a good morning. One shy and had to head to work. I've worked a lot with Canvas on dead ducks over the last year, but didn't have any geese in the freezer to practice with. She was definitely in a hurry when I released her after each kill, just didn't quite know what she wanted to do with the giant ducks when she got to them. I kept one of them to practice with her the next few days.

Two of them were loner adult birds that decoyed nicely. Last two were shot out of a family group of about 12. Heard more than I saw, but a nice morning nonetheless.

You guys are off and running with the season. Congrats! Todd, I'm pleased those dekes worked out for you and I'm sure Kyle will be excited to see the pics. Thanks for posting.

We got skunked. Hot and muggy, not to mention the mosquitos. Had to be back to work by 9:30 so we up and left at 9:00. We got buzzed by a few mallards but never heard/saw a goose.

I'm going to try to hit the Bay this weekend and possibly Monday.

My hunting buddy, Curt, shot 35 geese with his gang this morning in SW Michigan. That's all I can tell you or else he won't take me;) A lot of geese are moving over my house on Gun Lake - the fields must be loaded with 12ga shotguns, hahaha! Good luck everyone.

Those are nice decoys Todd. Hand carved decoys do add something to a hunt.

It was cloudy here this morning, the way I like it. We just had to sit in the truck till 5 AM waiting for the lightning and rain to pass. I hunted with my son Ben and a friend of mine with his dog Lily. It was a fun morning with several flocks coming in. Most wanted to land behind us, they have been all over this field the last couple of days. However we still managed to knock down a bunch of them.

Here they are with the bag:

This one's for John L. Ben really likes the shirt. He did get a little blood on it today, which just adds memories.

Looks like you guys had a great morning John! You are very blessed that your son hunts with you! Nice lookin spot you got to hunt too.

Best Regards,

It would have been a better opener for duck for me, several Gadwall and Woodies made an appearance as well as more Mallards than I have ever seen. I am tempted to stay away.

Thanks Al. It's supposed to start cooling off tomorrow, high 60's they're saying.

Andy, I only have four for now. That's all that I could talk those guys out of for now. Hopefully going to be adding some more for next season!
