Hail Call - Long Islanders - what route?

Good luck Dave, the cross bronx is bad, but the BQE is worse in my opinion... I don't envy anyone trailering on those roads.

Dave where are you hunting, you will ned to take the BQE to the LIE (495) east Take it all the way to RT135 South aka the Seaford Oyster Bay expressway. Take that to the end (heading south that is. You will see Merrick Rd West. travel 1.5 Miles and you are in Wantagh. I hunt it often. Shoot me an e-mail if you need help. Or grab my info off my website incentive fishing.com

"One bridge was $32 or $36 if I remember right with the 3rd axle, but just a couple bucks without. I have no idea what route that was, though." Is this true? Two years ago when I took the boat down, I think the most I paid was $18 to cross the George Washington Bridge (which in itself was a shock to me then). All in all, I think I paid about $30 in tolls going down and $20 coming back. I'm inquiring because I will be towing the boat down tonight and I'd like to know what I'm in for. I plan on crossing the GW and the Throgs Neck. Should be passing through there around 9 PM, traffic is usually not too bad at that time.

If the question is is it true? Yes it is true as best as I remember, as I said, I was floored. We were not driving to LI, but from CT to VA, so I don't think it applies to your weekend trip. My post was talking about 2 trips - on LI on the first paragraph, the second driving through/around NYC, both were picking up boats. The toll that was that high was either NJ or NYC on the way back, S of NYC, either way. This was several years back, I have no idea what route. I suppose that we could have been miscategorized as far as vehicle code (commercial or wrong number of axles). We were handing over money at a fast rate and keeping the fingers crossed that the trailer would hold - made for a good time.

Without a trailer it costs me something like $35 in tolls to go from NJ to the north shore of long island. At least $25 of that is just the GWB and Throgs Neck.

Just remember the toll on the GWB is only one way.... The George Washington Bridge toll is only for those crossing the bridge heading from NJ east into NY. If you are coming from NY and heading west into NJ there is no toll.

Consequently, the toll is really high going the one way, but free the other.

You probably racked up the big toll going west through the verrazano bridge, it's free going east and double west bound.

and as far as the NY/NJ port authority bridges the Tappan Zee was always half of what the GWB costs

WOW... i left nassau co.N.Y. late '71 thought it was too restrictive back then. I can't believe what i am reading regarding tolls, guess i'll never trailer my TDB back to the island for a sentimental trip. Ohio is pretty much open except for some city restrictions. Case your gun separate your ammo. and you can even carry a hand gun. Ohio recognizes about 26 other state carry licenses. Long guns are no problem at all if you are concerned unload gun separate ammo, that is remove from reach and you are good to go. Trailers need to be registered and have lights and plates.
My best advice to you N.Y.ers and N.J.ites is to vote conservative, support the NRA and TEA PARTY. Progressives=Socialism.
I feel better now,had to let off a little steam.
Bill.

im stuck here another 9.5 years (civil service job) Long Island is a dump. Overpriced, over taxed, most people are rude, all the sewage treatment plants are outdated and leaking in the bay. Rainwater runoff from lazy people who cant even maintain their own lawn letting landscapers destroy the bay with un-needed fertilizers not to mention all the golf courses. It will never change only get worse.. im gone the day I retire, I try to make the best of it its sad what a hellhole this Island became. And when you tell people your from here that just stare at you.. Hunting is frowned upon, I feel like a criminal buying shotshells in walmart to shoot clays ect. Sports Authority in Massapequa deleted all hunting and fishing stuff because people find it offensive! Fishing is offensive on an island? Its scary that this happened in a place with rich duck hunting and fishing history.. im 45 and feel sorry for the young people who live here and want to be active and show interest in duck hunting, my son is 10 what does he have to look forward too? I can go on and on but things will never change here.. Send my pension to another state is my only payback!
