I have the Std Horizon 851 for the DSC capability. I don't know if you have tried to relay any info to the Coast Guard but they want coordinates not 1/2 mile off Bloody Pt at the mouth of the Eastern Bay. With DSC, after you have registered the radio, your name, boat info and location is transmitted to CG and every other boat in the with DSC enabled. Registration is easy (and at no cost) through BoatUS web site, http://www.boatus.com/MMSI/
