Got a phone call two days ago to go hunt a very large piece I have always wanted to walk around. Well, if you have ever heard a small band of 15 inch beagles go off in a rabbit bramble you know why I cleared my schedule. The dogs cut a rabbit early in the first patch and we were off. By the end of the day they had logged 6 miles each on their GPS collars. What a property and what a hoot listening to 3 dogs go nuts all over it.

Boys are hooked and all want a beagle. Thomas who owns these 3 says he's not sharing!

Thank god we are a 1 dog house right now.

Glad to hear you had a great time.
I use to love following and listening to the dogs more that shooting the bunnys.
It is great when you know the dogs, who's leading, lost the trail, picked up the trail.
Running a pheasant running all by the sound comming from the hounds.
 
The first time I ever went hunting was during my junior year in high school. A friend had a beagle. Rabbits weren't nearly as nocturnal back then. When the
first rabbit was forced in a circle back by us, it was an "awakening". No one in my family hunted, but I have ever since.

Thanks for reminding me of something that happened 54 years ago.

Jim,
I had a feeling there might be a beagle man or two on the page. As you know, the sound of a pack on a rabbit is unique and not to be missed if you like the hunt. Finding good rabbit cover that is not house lots is getting harder but we had a bumper crop of bunnies this year and it has been good for all the boys with beagles.
