Does anyone out there remember seeing a post on this web site or any other like u tube etc. it was on a rig of multiple broadbills tied to some black colored cloth with plastic decoys and tied with short decoy line ganged up right next to each other so as to look like a small raft of broadbills & then to transport it was rolled up like a carpet. It was a post and then a short video was attached as to how the rig was made up & then used. For broadbill shooting . The black material all decoys were attached too when unrolled looked like a small raft of birds that handled better then us putting out a 100 string of decoys, because of how realistic the set up looked. it was about 10 ft long made to look like a small raft of broadbills in which was then rolled up to carry like a rug rolled up like a carpet . When put overboard used mostly in lay out boat shooting it looked more natural then a 100 decoy spread. I accidently deleted it .I wanted to show it to some of my hunting partners as to how effective it looked. Any info on this post would be appreciated. Thank you Paul

No... but there is a guy on here that hunts with some guys on GB or Michigan that do something similar.... Ask Pete

Ya I remember something about a new company starting up and some promo video like that. They had some kind of black sheet that you hooked your decoys to about 30 a sheet and you could hook the sheets together to make a bigger raft.
I think I saw it on Facebook.

Phil, thanks for posting this-no potential issues with this technique!.

Having set and pulled thousands of feet of gillnet, that video just made me shake my head! To make it real world: add-in darkness, working via a headlamp, setting in twenty mile an hour wind, and a boat bouncing broadside on the waves...no potential for tangles at all! The video also illustrates what can go wrong as the wind blows the boat downwind. Because of the weight of the engine, as well as the drag of the lower unit in the water, a boat in the trough will slowly cant stern first into the wind. If you don't have a broad expanse of clear gunnel to set over, bad things usually happen. I had the same experience and got caught in a quickly shrinking deck-space near the transom while we were setting a static line frame trawl in the five foot per second current in the discharge chute of a power plant on Lake Michigan. I ended-up hooking my right arm on the transom and jumping overboard to avoid getting sliced in half or get caught in the trawl body as it went over the side. I ended-up with a bruised face where it clanked against the transom gunnel and a very sore shoulder via a grade II separation shoulder separation from where the frame nailed me as it went over the gunnel and wet up to the knees. If the frame had hit me in the head or face as it slid by, the outcome would have been far worse. The boat was an 35ft. inboard with a fixed screw, so it had a high transom-only thing that save me. No consequent heart rate elevation whatsoever!

If you buy or build one of these, make sure you remove your rings and watch (yeah, I am a dinosaur who still wears a watch). Tape-off all of the compression strap ends on the life vest so they can't entangle in the net mesh as you are leaning over. Also, remove your glasses prior setting. If they happen to fall-off during the setting process, they are likely gone forever.

Phil, Thanks for the info on the decoys spread. It is very similar to the one i saw. The one I saw was a much better set up the way it was made & set up to hunt with a lot less tangles . but at least I can incorporate with experiment to improve on the idea. I think it can be far more effective. Then long lines. Thanks PAUL

Could you imagine the mess, and the danger, if you got that net rig in your prop?????

That looked like a hot mess in broad daylight... And I very rarely deploy decoys when it's light.

Whatever works, I guess. Free country and all.

That looks like a pain in the ass. I would not want to try that in the dark. Not sure why AC/DC is playing in the background

Holy cow. What a great way to get pulled overboard. And look how hard he is working to get them all flipped over the right way and untangled!

Dwight, That was not the video i was looking for , The one I saw was totally different .In the video you saw, Those guys did not even have self righting decoys in the spread. let alone use fish net ,Must have been a bunch of Red Necks I intend to do it a lot easier way.

Craig, I have looked all over face book & cant find the video. I can tell you this the rig was really set up well & handled by an experienced bunch of lay out boat shooters. If you do find it again would you let me know Date ETC. Thanks Paul
