If anyone is looking for a new handheld GPS, I found a steal on Garmin GPS76-Map on Amazon.
$129.00, new, delivered. Mine is in the mail. :)

These are now discontinued (replaced by the 78), but orginally sold for like $275.00. We used them during oil spill work and they are great units.

Search for Garmin 76 on Amazon and they will pop up.

Oh sure now you tell me! :) Just bought an Etrex HCx over the weekend on sale at Cabelas $200 bundled with the PC cord and map DVD and 1gig SD card. And 12V power cord thrown in for free.

I think I paid $400 for mine but that was 10 years ago. At $129 it's almost worth replacing the old one as I think the pins in back are starting to go.

Thanks for the heads up!
Scott

Not sure about topo software but they do come with the Garmin CD & USB cord so you can hook up to the PC and manage routes & waypoints.

I checked with Garmin.
As long as it has a USB the topo maps and waypoints will transfer.
Thanks for the heads up.

The plain GPSMAP 76 has a serial port not a USB. It will require a serial/usb converter (not included).
Any of the versions later than the 76 have usb ports.

Thats interesting, I remember plugging our 76s into the usb port last summer.
Will check it out when it arrives.

Got it today, it is a serial port connection. I think the NOAA data teams must have had a special USB cord, because we connected them to US ports on the laptops to down load data. But no problem, I have aserial port on my laptop!
