I have only posted on here a few times. Felt like this was one of those times when each of you would understand. My faithful Lab Holly is very ill and I know my time with her is quickly passing. She is 13 years old and has some kind of liver problem. I have chosen not to do an ultrasound or liver biopsy. We have shared many great days hunting and made 10 great trips to Canada.
So I asked each one of you to have us in your thoughts.

Sonny, Prayers pointed your direction from Washington State. I can only imagine your sadness and pain. Sonny, remember those great trips to Canada and what a great friend and companion you have been to Holly.

My thoughts are with you.

I understand all too well.

I have a 13 1/2 year old Chocolate Lab female in basically the same boat. Not liver, but terminal.

I guess all we can do is cherish the memories for they are priceless and irreplaceable.

Sonny,
they go too fast. It is not easy. Mine loved Coffee Ice Cream. She got all she wanted toward the end. It was the least I could do for her.

Just do all you can to keep that pup in comfort.


My Old Girl (Ginger) will be 16 on Pearl Harbor day.
Gosh, she has been by my side longer than any human being.
She's hunted and fished and lived with me through thick and thin.
She kept me from eating a bullet on a few occasions long ago, and I am damned glad she did.

I vowed to back her up to the very end.

She pisses on the floor a few times a week, and sometimes gets confused when I let her go outside, because I think she forgets why she is outside at all.


She still loves her walk, and has a good appetite, and loves to cuddle up.

Sometimes she takes a nosedive going up the stairs, and I have to grab her collar and steady her some to get her up to her dogbed.


She can not hear much, and I have to rap the side of the house with the dog bowl to get her attention to come in.
I will keep her until she tells me to let her go.

Letting go is a drag.

You are in our thoughts.
 
To All,
I have lurked on this forum for years. Have read so many of your post in my situation. Most of you that have replied, I know but have never meet. Gary seen so many of your pictures of you and River. Todd I read your heart wrenching story and now you have The Red Dog. I too have Gabby and she has been filling Holly's shoes for the last 2 years.
I have tried to comfort her and will continue until the end.

Sorry to hear things are going so quickly. I know how much your dogs and the good times spent with them mean. Those good time and great retrieves will always be in your memory. Don' forget the invite down here.

So sorry to hear that , our time with our best friends are always to short but that is why we need to hold on the memorable hunts with them , prayers are with you !!!!

I know how you feel Sonny. My lab Shah is 12 now, and I thank God for every hunt with him still remaining. He's laying here by my side. He's got a few battle scars, a few issues, a lot slower now, but he still loves to hunt. We're going dove hunting later today. They don't stay with us long enough Sonny. Believe me, I know how you feel. Prayers are on the way for your good friend. Hitch
 
John, I hear ya buddy. My lab belle is 12. We had a great hunt last week and she retreived 5 ducks. She was not acting herself over the weekend so Monday I took her to the vet. Well she had to have emergency surgery tuesday and will be OK, but most likely out for the rest of this season. Just glad that she will be OK.............
 
The good ones never last long enough.

Thoughts are with you at this time.. Here is hoping you make all the right decisions. Sometimes, i think it is more diffucult letting go of a hunting companion than a two legged family member!!
Fortunately, you already have her replacement on board, which will make her passing a mite easier. Each one is different, and when they go , they take a bit of our hearts with them.

Sonny , I know just how you feel for I had to put my yellow lab Buster down, of only 8 and 1/2 years old,He had progresive kidney failure, a week ago.Duckhunting is just not the same without him.So I just close my eyes and he is always there. I feel your pain,my prayers are with you and your best friend .good luck and hang in there buddy cas
