Heavy Heart

We all have to go through it at sometime not that it makes it any easier. I buried my 13 yr old Jed in june ,at our duck swamp, Red water brook. All fall when retuning to hunt we would visit him on the walk in. Now his son has taken his spot in the blind but not quite in my heart.
 
Thanks, Paul and Kevin. I am a Chocolate man, and I have a 2yr. old that as stepped up, but Holley was my go to girl.
This is why I visit this site daily, because I knew you guys would understand.

Thanks Dave, If you remember I bought a call from you. I also talked to you about Gordy and your breeder. We are still hanging in there, but it is getting harder.

Hey Sonny
Just checking in to see how things are going. I keep thinking about you and Twalla losing your companion.
I didn't hunt since last Friday, had some other issues to tend to over the weekend. The season has closed yesterday until Sat. after next. Guys have been shooting a few teal and lots of ringers. Seems like we have a good many shovelers here also. Also heard of a few redheads being shot. I cooked some teal breast in a blackberry and port wine sauce Sat. night. A glass of single malt scotch with Kalli at my feet after dinner made a nice evening.

Sonny, this year I've begun to avoid reading threads like this. My Taffey is getting up there in those double digit years and I dread the moment she begins to enter the phase you are going through now.

I try to not to think about it (which isn't working very well as I write), but believe when her time comes I will forever celebrate Taffey's life with me. I need to believe this will help, but the tears I shed now are not convincing.

My sympathy goes out to you.

Tanks to all that have replied. I have a vet who is coming to the house today @ 12:00. It is time to let go. I will do a proper tribute when I can. But every Duck Hunter should own a dog with the heart that this was had She never quit or gave up. Even Today!

Sonny, Just remember they will all be waiting for us at the rainbow bridge and there are ducks in heaven. You are in very good company here.
 
So sorry, and . been there . Lost a 3 year old lab to some sort of bone cancer a while back. Vet came out to my house to take care of the procedure that had to be done, and I left before they arrived. I couldn't be around for that , my wife is a nurse,and she was here for it . I have lost many friends,and family members like everyone else , but I lost it so bad that day , I can't even describe .
So,So sorry.

Sonny, I am very sorry to hear of your loss and the pain that goes with it. They seem to go so fast in our lives and you were very fortunate to have her for so many good years. I put down a 2 year old a couple years back because of a spinal condition. It never gets easy. I am glad to hear that you have another dog that you can lean on until you can get past your grief. Prayers to ease your suffering and pain are sent your way. May God enjoy your friend as you have.

Been there a few times. Nothing makes it easier than remembering all those great experiences together, buddies, partners, loyal friends. But puppy breath heals broken hearts. Training a one year old horse err I mean lab now. It's so neat watching him put all those little lessons together and figure out the whole hunting thing.

My thoughts are with you. Love her give her what she wants to eat, hold her, and it's alright to cry. My girl would only eat Doritos, and I gave them to her often.
