Hedgerow Huckleberry

Sad day today I had to put my old lab Huck to sleep today. He made it to the ripe old age of 13 1/2 but his body gave out in the end. He had been struggling with arthritis and bad hips for a couple of years after I retired him. He will be sorely missed, he gave me ten good years in the field and 13 1/2 great years as a companion. As he moves on I hope he will be able to reunite with his old hunting buddies. Briar who patiently taught his to retrieve ducks and Gunner the Brittany he used to flush and retrieve pheasants with.

I will have to dig up some picture of him.

found two from last year hunting had to re size really small...have to learn photobucket

Sorry for your loss Shawn. As you know putting a dog down is one of the hardest things a dog owner has to do. Just remember all the good times that you had with him and always remember he is still with you. You will be together again someday.

Shawn,
So sorry for your loss. We all know how tough that is to do. They are only here for a short time and they leave and break our hearts.

Sorry to hear about your loss Shawn.

When we take on the responsibility of owning a canine friend, way back in the back of our hearts we know that someday we will have to deal with their passing. It's just never easy.

Someone shared this with me a while ago, I find it somewhat fitting.

THE BEST PLACE TO BURY A DOG
by Ben Hur Lampman

"There is one best place to bury a dog.
"If you bury him in this spot, he will
come to you when you call - come to you
over the grim, dim frontier of death,
and down the well-remembered path,
and to your side again.

"And though you call a dozen living
dogs to heel, they shall not growl at
him, nor resent his coming,
for he belongs there.

"People may scoff at you, who see
no lightest blade of grass bent by his
footfall, who hear no whimper, people
who may never really have had a dog.
Smile at them, for you shall know
something that is hidden from them,
and which is well worth the knowing.

"The one best place to bury a good
dog is in the heart of his master."
