Help w/ removing bad FG applied with polyester resin over good FG/Epoxy?

I've run into a scenario where I need to remove some 'work' someone did to a commercial made fiberglass hull. The work involved the use of polyester (auto shop) resin, and fiberglass, as well as burlap (in place of real fiberglass)...don't ask. Is there any agent that will 'release' plyester resiv, w/o harming the gelcoat/epoxy and glass underneath, or will I have to manuallt (carefully) sand this? Thanks.

I was afraid of that. I've already removed two half inch sheets of plywood, spaced with 1x4s, underneath 2" pink house foam, covered with burlap hardened with poly resin and cracks sealed with great stuff spray foam. LOL I think I just lightened the entire rig by somewhere around 150#. Most of the burlap/poly resin I've tried to remove has come up with mild chiseling/scraping, w/o harming the glass underneath. The bottom of the hull is where there is actual fiberglass, bonded with poly resin...that has me worried. I actually should have taken pictures of this...just for laughs later.LOL

No....the blackjack and TDB were both in good/as stated condition. I don't want to hurt feelings over this other hull, since (the fact is) they did figure out a way to meet their intent with the work they did. The material selection just left a little to be desired....but it's all they knew and knew how to get, I guess. They're good guys. It's just going to take me a little more work to 'restore' it to original. LOL

Yeah...but I hope it ain't more than I bargained for. LOL The funny part is that I was actually thinking I was 'streamlining' my boats/projects a little. LOL
