this is on our boxer.. anyone ever seen something like this? she had another one closer to the front of the webbing that swelled, turned black, then shrank. now this one behind it has flared up. she has another on her other paw that is not swollen or red etc. bear (my lab) doesn't have any bumps etc of any sorts between his toes. is this a "common" thing? are there glands or otherwise under the skin/webbing that can become inflamed?

after further review.. maybe i'm looking at Interdigital Cysts?

thanks jeff

Looks like a yeast infection maybe. My choc bitch gets that between her toes...could be fungal or bacterial. Google it or wait to hear from the authorities here.

Hey Jeff, My guy gets them arn he digs at them a lot. My wife works for a vet and all she does is cut the hair around them and put some neosporin on it. Seems like after that he leaves it alone. There may be also be something in there. Is there any sign of puncture under the area? I had a lab that had that problem on a regular basis. If so it will grow quickly and fester.
Good Luck John

thanks guys. she always is scratching something.. she has the worst skin of any dog i've ever seen. i assume this is just part of it. I'll take her to the vet.

Jeff

Jeff, in your dog it is likely a deep pyoderma secondary to your dogs allergy. Skin infection. Neosporin wont work on these though. Need oral antibiotics and to visit with your vet on what they think is the best way to try to manage your dogs allergies. There are multiple things to try...

Hunting dogs often get punctures or foreign bodies that cause the same type of infections in the feet.

Good luck, dome dogs with allergies can be one of the most frustrating things to try to control in veterinary medicine.

tanks a bunch ira. hope you guys are killing some. i'm up to 3 ducks so far this year :) tied with last year with two weeks to go woo hoo! ;)

i should be up to see you this year for a boat.. just trying to figure out which one i need.

Might be the beginnings of an interdigital cyst. Boxer's can be cancer factories, but it doesn't look like it from the pic. MANY treatments for allergies, some work some don't. I've been seeing alot of allergies with this 60 temps and wet conditions lately.
Good luck and call me if you need to Jeff.

thanks a bunch brian. wish i was closer to one of you guys... it's hard trusting a vet. I'm sure i'll be the same way with docs when i have kids.

Jeff

hey brian...

when it is cancer, does it normally swell up, drain and go away? or would you just have a tumor of sorts that was persistant? I think i'll be keeping the "cancer factories" comment from kenna :) this is her first dog and it is only 3 this year. but thanks for the heads up.. it's nice to be prepared just in case.

Jeff

Jeff,
It really doesn't look or act like cancer. Boxers are very prone to mast cell tumors, so get any odd looking lump checked out quickly. I love boxers and have owned them (have a boxer mix right now), but any age past 9 y.o. is a bonus is my mind.
Brian

thanks brian. i'm 100% sure we'll be getting another boxer after she goes. boxers are something else. completely different than my lab for sure.
