Okay guys, you all have known me long enough to know that I don't spook easily or scare easily. Danibeth has gone hunting this last weekend of the season. I know for some of you this will sound kinda funny but I have a bad feeling, that followed a really bad dream last night. She and I have a special connection and we just seem to know what the other is thinking, or one of us thinking about the other and the phone will ring and it will be the other. I have battled with myself all day saying I am being silly......but what if I am not? She usually leaves a note with where she is going who she is with and how long she will be gone, but not this time. Have any of you had email or phone conversations that might give me an idea where she might be this weekend? I realize if all is well with her she will likely roll her eyes and be embarrassed that I have caused a "scene" but to heck with that, if something were to be wrong with it being 29 degrees out there and her having borrowed a boat that she was "fixing leaks" on last I heard, I would hate to ignore my feeling and find out I shouldn't have ignored them. At least she will know she is loved. If anyone has any info I would really appreciate you checking in...........

Diana,
Never be afraid or embarrassed for following your gut. I ALWAYS follow mine. That's why we have that special "intuition". It's an angel on our shoulder.
I'll keep you guys in my prayers and ask the Lord to watch over you and keep you both safe.
Lou

thank you guys for your thoughts and prayers......does anyone know if a cell phone gps can be used for location if the cell phone is powered off?

Diana,

I know exactly what you are feeling, been there myself on many occasions with my own kids. I'll put out some positive "get home safe" vibes.

Prayers and thoughts are with you and Dani. The newer cell phones can be traced,as long as the battery is working,so I understand.

Thank you all for the prayers, Danibeth just called as I was typing an update for you guys. When you consider this is the first time in 12 years that her hunting has caused me serious worry I guess it is not so bad. I think we will fine tune the communication methods from here on out though.

As for the PLB mentioned: As sleep was not easy coming last night I did some research on PLB type units. Thanks for the link. I found one I thought was worth checking out as well since I am going to be going on international travel alone come May. http://findmespot.com/en/index.php?cid=1100 I will do more research on it. I figure it is not a bad thing to have for the active family home, for summer canoe and kyaking adventures, hunting season and adventures like Wis Boz had last season, international travel etc.......I looked at pet collars too, I figured she could wear it as an anklet. :-)

Well I think a hot bath, and a hot toddy are next on the agenda. Again my thanks and prayers.

By the way, the college update for me.....last semester I got all A's, sadly but wisely I am sitting this semester out for medical reasons. I may be old and very gray by the time Danibeth gets to see me get my diploma but I am determined.

Kindest regards,
Diana

Dani has probably already said "Oh Mooooooom, I can take care of myself". We know she can but, still, it's a parents perogative and duty to worry.

Glad everything worked out.

Thanks for the good news. I have been "encouraged" to look at the PLB units because I almost always hunt alone but the annual fee kinda put me off. I know that is a small price if you need it but it still doesn't seem right.

As for the PLB, I have the ACR that I sent the link to. The spot is cheaper to buy, but you have to renew your membership every year (at least $99). The ACR is lifetime supported once you buy it. The spot does have a check in feature that the ACR does not. The ACR just gets used only if you need to call in the choppers.

Actually she just quietly said, "I'm sorry I worried you." She's a good egg.

I looked at the one time vs annual fee. I figure the message/send capability is peace of mind though and both of the kids are getting to an age where what to get them for Birthdays is a tough question,so what better way to celebrate their birthday every year than something that may save their bacon. Thank you for your input. It is awesome that you have one. I respect a person who takes the appropriate precautions.

I have the Spot, bought it for motorcycle trips, and Hunting/Camping. I like the tracking function, I turn it on and then friends and family can see on-line where I was when and can see my direction of travel. Not sure I would bet my life on the Spot though... it is better than just a cell phone. I know there are some occasions when the signal does not get through every 10 minutes, but most do arrive. I have it set to text myself along with the others on my distribution, so I know if the "OK" signal makes it out. I think there are some changes/improvements planned as they current version is on sale. If you don't need ti now, perhaps wait a couple months and see what changes are in store.

Thanks for letting me know. Like you said better than just a cell phone. If one message in 24 hours came in it would be better than nothing at least speaking from the mom at home angle. ;-)

Congrats on all those A's Diana. Sorry you are having to sit this semester out.

Maybe Danibeth needs a good spanking for making you worry. Leaving a good float plan has saved many a life and saved a lot of worry.

Glad she's Okay,
Harry
