Here's another idea for flattie floaters.

I have made a couple of those, and had more trouble getting them to float right than I thought I would.

Wildfowler used to sell a similar design as well.
 
Good info Bill. What if the piece under the water was cut to go deeper with some weight on it?

Was it a big deal to have them get soaked a bit - swelling in the joint?

Might be a neat idea to make a full profile side silo, rather than a side profile cut at the waterline if you follow my thinking, keep the top profile in the same location and use the "belly" of the bird as a keel, maybe with a little lead on it to keep it down...damn, you got the wheels turning!

I don't think wildfowler continued the design long, I will have to check the book tonight when i get home.
 
Hmmmm...I take it the silo is grooved so you just slide the base on and flip the turn button to keep it in place? Interesting. Thanks, Mike.
 
Bills thought works. And if you cut the top view to shape as well it looks a little classier.
And yes, slot them to fit.
