Here's your sign

Has got to be on the Eastern Shore somewhere..... Few years ago, John Bourbon and I made a non-stop roadtrip from Northern Vermont to somewhere on the Eastern Shore to a plucking house.... bought an old plucker. We tried, but it never really worked too well for us. I think the fingers where not flexible enough.

Rich, it was similar.... red and I don't remember a hood. Drum was about the same size. John got a bag of extra fingers. but they all seemed too old/hard/cracked. Of coarse we had not run one so we were not sure we were doing it right..... I was not happy with the black rubber marks on the skin, and the torn skin on the couple I tried.

I think John still has it. Hopefully he will chime in.... he will know where we bought it. The building was similar for sure, and feathers everywhere!

Hi Dave. We bought it in Delaware, somewhere....It was shorter than that, with no hood. I still have it out in the barn. If I were to guess where the pic was taken, I'd say somewhere along the Rt 50 coridor between the Bay Bridge and the Choptank River bridge.

We carried a bunch of geese and canvasbacks to this old guy, picked them up about 4:30, then dropped the breasts off at our favorite restaurant, went back aroud 8-8:30 for the best dinner you could imagine. No one and I mean no one knows how to cook waterfowl like the eastern shore folks! Rich

I hunt on occasion with a father and son who own a small plucker that does an excellent job. It is a bench mounted rig with a belt drive and a commercial vacuum gathers the feathers and down. It sure makes quick work of a bird.

There is a fellow at Long Point who cleans birds in a shed out behind his house. It made me smile when I saw the sign because I haven't used him in a few years. I have some good memories from when I hunted there a lot!

There used to be several elderly women that plucked birds around here. They've all pasted on now, but it sure was nice to show up, hand them $10 and a pile of birds and walk away. The same people processed birds for my grandfather when my dad was coming up. Doesnt look like the new generation kept it up.
We dont have much here on the shore but our women can sure cook!

I'll guess shore sportsman on Kent Island for the sign
That picker looks like the one Charley Babe in St Michaels had when I was a kid
He never used it, that I saw, said it bruised the birds
He always had a bunch of daughters, nieces, and cousins picking away

My God, dont you just love the Eastern Shore! The birds, the scenery, the tradition, the water, its mind boggling. If you hav'nt already figured, its Easton Md. We hunt with my buddy Larry Albright, owner of Albrights gun shop in Easton. Larry sets us up on Bo Kennedys blinds down in Trappe. The gunning is the best, the company even better. I will post a few hunt shots later. Rich

Hi Rich. How do you know Larry? I don't know him, but my father does. Pop has bought several guns from him over the years. In my younger days, when I worked boat yards on Kent Island, I worked with various guys who lived in Trappe. Pleasant memories....

John

John, An old friend had a lot of farmland in trappe. This place was loaded with deer, turkeys and of course ducks and geese. Larry was my pals friend also,we hunted together many years ago, and have tried to keep in touch and shoot together as much as possible since. Larry is a special human being. Rich
