My Mom owns this carving. It was done buy JP Hand about 20+ years ago. She is thinking about selling it but she is having a hard time deciding what to ask for it. It is rather large compared to most of his carvings I have seen. It stands about 30" tall and is around 40" long. It is hollow and I assume white cedar. The only thing close that I can find online is a large swan that sold for around $1,000.00. Any ideas or guesses would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Luke





 
Luke, that's a great decoy! Jamie Hand is one of my favorite carvers. His work is somewhat hard to come by. I personally think that $1,000 is a fair price to start with. Good luck with the sale........................Kevin
 
Thanks. My Mom hates the idea of selling it but she is going through a bit of a rough patch right now and could use the money. It is a really great carving I'd love to buy it myself but my wife would not be real happy with me. Let me know if you can think of anyone that collects his work. thanks, Luke
 
Luke !! Jamie Hand carved a full sized Swan for me in 1984. I sold it in 2008 for $1500 on E-bay.
Your Heron is an rare carving which at the minimum should bring $1000+
