Hevi Metal

I got some of the new Hevi Metal Shells from Hevi Shot and have been using them for this years duck and goose season. I happened to cut one open to check them out and was really suprised at what I found. What I found was it appears that they are using some type of seed for a filler atop the pellets. It looks as if they are using these seeds instead of a filler wad? My question was what are the seeds I am assuming some type of aquatic plant? The next question is will they germinate after being shot? Last question if they will germinate is it something that will produce waterfowl habitat or food for the next seasons water fowl? If that is the case it seems as if it is a great idea and should be marketed for that and let people know. Has anybody else noticed this or have any information on what it is and the purpose, just very interesting hope ill get some good feed back, thanks for all the help.

I've heard they use flax seed as a filler. I doubt it would germinate in most marsh situations and I bet it is broken up pretty well before it gets out of the barrel. I suppose it could grow if you field hunt but it isn't something that is going to do much. They could even heat treat it to kill it like is done to thistle seed for bird feeders.

thanks for the info very interesting. I wonder if you could use something aquatic and if it would actually do something for the wetlands would be an interesting idea or thought. What do you think I am going to try and germinate some see if they are active.

There would be many problems with adding a seed that would grow in a marsh. A useful aquatic plant in NY might be a noxious weed in CA. Flax is grown all over the place so there should be no problems if it did/could grow.

One thing that makes me go "Hmmm?..." is that it is a grain that is being spread from the shot shell. This is totally nit picky and don't anyone say I'm saying more then I am. But wouldn't that technically be baiting? I'm fine with them finding an organic filler but it is just something that popped into my mind.

What do the seeds look like. How about a pictue? Flax seeds are black and very small. My dad used to say (about someone who was rather cheap) "You couldn't pound a flax seed up their a** with a sledge hammer." HA!
