Hevi

Have any of you used Hevi-X? The price is much better than Hevi Duck.. I was thinking that 3" or 3 /2" in #6 or #7.5.... That would have to give a FULL pattern with ample knock down power over decoys. Just reload????

I have not. The last time I tried to figure out the difference between the various "Hevi" products, I couldn't find clear information on the differences between them. That and the price kept me buying Fast Steel.

Phil-I have not tried that, but have used a couple of boxes of the Hevi-Steel, which is also a blend of hevi-shot and steel, and they were pretty good. But I like the Rio bismuth better, and I bought a couple of boxes of Kent bismuth that I didn't get to use because I didn't hunt that much this year. I'm going to pattern both of them this summer the right way and then decide which one to go forward with. Maybe I'll buy a couple of boxes of this also and see how that shoots.

I've talked to a guy doing some testing and a review of hevi-x. While he says it isn't hevi shot it is much better than steel. Hes been happily shooting ducks with his 20ga. I believe he's using 1oz of 4s.

I believe Tom Roster did a review in one the last few months Shooting Sportsman magazines. Might be worth finding.

4s are the smallest they make hevi-x in. 1 1/4 or 1 3/8 ounce of 4s is going to be a lot of shot in the pattern.

If you want to reload then bismuth might be your best option. Been thinking about that myself for 20ga non-tox pheasant loads.

Yep, I was just talking hevi-x. I think they just make BBs, 2s and 4s in hevi-x right now.
