Well Howard,I pulled the thermostat out.The cavity was bone dry.Looked bad.I cleaned it up and tested the thermostat in hot then cold water a few times. It opened and closed
every time.I talked to the Motor wizard ,Ralph,at the parts site, after talking to you and he said run the engine with the thermostat and cover off for a short while to see if water is pumping up there.Just finished. Not a drop of water came up.Did turn slightly damp at the bottom of the cavity.Engine got hot.No cooling.Next step is to remove the lower unit and see whats up with the water pump/impeller.Is it possible that it needed to be primed with water in the thermostat well?
Hanging on to hope.
