A pyrrhuloxia (male). We live on its northern edge of the Chihuahuan Desert region. For you that have cardinals in your backyard, this would be its cousin. Their song is indistinguishable from the cardinal's.

These mule deer were only a couple hundred yards away from where I cut firewood. Took this picture on 3-22-15.

Morning Al,

Thanks for the pics. I just realized what keeps you young - has to be puppy breath haha. Nice to see flowers, It'll be a couple of weeks yet for us.

Have a great day,
Pete

An all black litter? Who has Habi been hanging with? :>)

Lovely flowers. Around here, the grass in some spots is just starting to show some color. Trout stocking here in Iowa starts tomorrow. I hit a few streams last weekend before the stocking and subsequent crowds of fishermen. Had trout for one meal when I was there and brought a few back home so it was a good trip. I always see an abundance of Minnesota plates in the parking lots early spring. We have an open season on trout all year long and the MN season does not open till a bit later in the spring.

The geese around here are stacking out claims to nesting sites. I am also seeing lots of Woodies along the rivers as well as many Mallards.

Thanks for sharing your pics.

Morning Al...I can always count on you for my pup fix but that puppy with his tongue out is very fresh...LOL

Stay Well

Bob

Al, your posts always put a smile on my face. It looks like spring has finally sprung in your neck of the woods. Looking forward to the hummers showing up. Always love your pictures, Jeff

Al-thanks for the puppy fix. We are starting to think about our trek back to Wadena. Been a fast three months. Will be in touch as we get closer to see if it will work to come your way. Jim

Al those are some cute little buggers!

My babies are not quit as good looking.

Hi Pete---it is hard to imagine that 3 months has gone by since you came here for that visit. You are so right about puppy breath!
Al

Half of Habi's pedigree is with black and since we had Chaco as the sire it does make sense that it is an all black litter.
Good to hear that your area is finally beginning to see those first signs of Spring. It sure can make a guy feel good. I'm thinking that you are having thoughts of the Arrowhead region again.

Good luck, Dave.
Al

Hey Jeff---I'm glad it worked. Speaking of hummers--with our temps running between 15 and 20 degrees higher than normal, yesterday at 84F, I hung our first feeder out. Normally they are here on April 1st. No Joke! I can hardly wait to see them.
Al

Thank you, Paul. We are feeding her 9 cups of food a day and she still is slowly losing her body weight. This week is the big week in nursing. They are going to be 4 weeks old on this coming Saturday. Habi is working hard and when she has the chance to catch some sleep I am sure she has no idea that those nails feel like needles.
Al

Jim, give us a shout prior to coming. I'll let you know what our schedule is. I do know that Bev has an art show we will attend on Friday afternoon in Albuquerque. With the pups and that schedule of people coming and going we should be able to work something out. We would really like seeing you and your wife. Drive carefully. By the way, Hwy 60 has some fantastic scenery. I'm sure you will love it.
Al

Boy, Tim, I sure like that ash yellow? in the nest bowl. Nice looking homer. I'm betting it is a hen. I know what you mean about pups and that always wanting one. With every litter we have that thought running through our minds.

Make sure to give Deuce a biscuit.
Al

The yellow one is actually a deroy(recessive red + almond). He is getting lighter looking as his feathers grow in. He is starting to look like his grandfather that the cat got. I hope to get one or two more.

Oh and the white one is likely just a really poorly marked ash red almond.

Deuce never thinks he gets enough treats so I'll toss him one more from you.

Great pics All

The puppy pics are always my favorite of course LOL

My girls are coming in heat now, Bred Bailey the last 3 days with Zeus.
Breeding Raven with Zeus when she is ready in a few days.

Al, those are some fine pictures. You always have some good stuff to share in March, just when the cold and damp weather starts to really drag on in South Jersey.

Tim. thanks for telling me about that possible almond. I had forgotten about you losing the old cock bird earlier. This is good to see. Good luck.
Al

Thanks, Doug. Sounds to me like you'll be busy in early June. Well they be all blacks or a combo of chocolates, also?
