Homemade paint jobs for boat/motor

Sorry I don't have any photos. It's really a pretty easy process that gets good results. Not perfect like with actual Max4 camo patterns but very nice looking. Just avoid the cookie cutter look down the side. Make several different patterns of varying lengths, widths, curvatures, and overlap them. The Cabelas spray paint kit along with the camo spay cans you can buy at Walmart will give you various colors and shades. Be sure to lightly dust everything with khaki camo to really soften up the patterns. I wish I had some photos of my past efforts because I got a lot of compliments from friends and strangers and ended up helping some do their boats. My current boat already has a factory camo pattern but to be honest I like my own camo pattern better. I'm tempted to paint it anyway.

Camo is not hard. just layer patterns on top of each other. I did this over the summer with spray cans. the White faded down to more of a light tan after a few days out.(that was done with a cheap brush)

think I am going to add a few more layers and some "grass" this next summer. Just have to make a new blind for it first.

I 'm sorry I don't really know how to post a picture. With that said, I have a 90 hp motor. On my eighteen foot duck boat .I went to Walmart and bought three cans of camo spray paint (three bucks apiece). Then I went online to walmart.com and got a stencil kit for less then twenty bucks. March grass was the way I went. It really looks nice. Trust me I'm no artist. If you know a person that can make a good stencil for free. That much better.

good luck

Scott, great looking boats. You did a really good job on those.

Anthony, thanks for the advice. I'll check Walmart.com for some cheep stencils.

Steve, that is a dandy little motor stand you have. I built one a few years back out of 2x6 but if I ever need another I'm using your design.

Good morning, Eric~

Thanks for the kind words about the motor stand. As with many things I use and enjoy, this was my Dad's handiwork. It's on The List for a measured drawing some day.

All the best,

SJS
