Honey Hole Occupied

Just made my first "scout", which amounted to walking down the hill to the pond to make sure nobody has stolen my stashed canoe or paddle.

Everything was still there, so I paddled down to the little marshy island I hunt from and cut a little brush for an informal blind. I saw no signs that anyone has been hunting the pond for early goose season, which seems to put the birds off a bit, and I flushed 25+ Canada's, a flock of 20+/- woodies, and smaller bunches of teal and big ducks. The big ducks got up at long range, so couldn't tell if they were blacks or mallards.

Got a 2 man "blind" brushed in and ready for our 9/26 opener, though I can't hunt until the 27th. I'll offer it up to a neighbor for the youth day on Saturday, and a buddy may hunt it next Monday if I let him know the birds are around . . . . .

Sweet. I understand that the teal are in the bay. Plan to have Phil there for youth day south. I hope he does better then he did with the northern youth day. He was not feeling well and did not bring home a single duck.
We did go shooting on Sunday where he shot exceptionally well. We had a fun shoot at the club and among other things he went straight at trap beating some of the clubs best trap shooters.

Always nice when you find ducks on the X before the season opens.
Make sure to take some photos of the pond & surroundings, sure would be nice to see some photos of what Fall really looks like vs. what we are experiencing down here on the Gulf Coast!

It's fall down here, the leaves are turning and we finally got a good rain. Looking for some shrooms after work.

Another sign fall is here; I got my first batch of hard cider fermenting away, OG 1.075! Should be dangerous.....

Yikes, sounds like Fall in south Alabama!
Are the leaves turning??

Fall is on its way here in the northwest. It was bit cooler this morning and like Chris said the cider making is underway. we just got done pressing 60 gallons of cider. Dropped my hydrometer last night so I have no idea of the specific gravity. Usually we get only 10-20 gal from our 2 trees but my Boss said the tree at his moms house was loaded and I should go get them so they don't go to waste. Ended up getting 45 gallons from one tree! My truck bed was almost completely full when we were done picking. I was planning on working on decoys this weekend but when the apples are ready they are ready. Today I have to source 10lb of local honey to turn 10 gallons of it into a Cyser should end up 11-12% ABV.

Jeff, I am preparing for my trip to northern Maine in a couple of weeks and have been following the weather. It looks warm now but will have a 20+ degree drop for the high in about two weeks. Just in time to freeze my butt off. I CANT WAIT!
