How far do you need to look to find beauty?

Thanks Al. Great shots! That first one is perfect for me today. I'm trying to carve a decoy head and having trouble with the cheek to bill transition and that pic shows it perfectly. Luke

Hey Luke. I have to admit that your comments made my day. Thank you. I'm glad this helped you out. If I can do it again for you, let me know what you are working on.

Great shots Al. I wouldn't put money on the juvenile swans being Tundras. Were there any adults?

Glad you liked them, Brad. As for the young swans, they flew in by themselves. I sent you a pm on this one.

Thanks Al.

Beautiful !!
That last shot is my new desk top screen background (I hope you won't mind!)

Best,
Brian F.

Well, Brian, just so you know, I am glad that you are using it as such and can enjoy it for as long as you want.

Al those are fantastic pictures. I love the shoveler. If I was ever lucky enough I'd love to shoot photos with you and Gary Marsh. You two guys live in paradise

Thank you so much. I happen to think that Gary is the ultimate master of picture taking and I, too, enjoy his style.
Some day if you ever travel into this neck of the woods, I would love to take you to some of the areas that I like to shoot at.

How much do you want for the last photo...That would look wonderful taken and printed on a canvas....

Regards,
Kristan

Well now, Kristan, how about $500 a month for the rest of my life. I could use a retirement fund! That is a great idea that you have. I will see if I still have the original. I'm thinking not but it is possible. If I find it, I will send it to you. I have a couple of other guys who have asked, also.

Great photos Al. The photos of the teal coming in and the pintails coming gets my ticker cranked up.

Well, Rob, when I saw that photo of the large flock of drake pintails coming into my spread, I was thinking of you.

I gotta tell you that the crane courtship photos have got to be some of the best I've ever seen of recording their spectacular dance.

I believe those swans are trumpeters.

Thanks, Brad. I love running down to the refuge to watch sandhills. By the way, one of my friends who has a farm not too far from Bosque del Apache called me last night (9-24) and told me that he saw and heard two flocks of them heading south yesterday.
I appreciate the correction on the swans. I change that under the shots. Thanks.

Thanks for digging through the Archives Al! I am passing a slow day at work and this was just what I needed. I especially like the squadron of ducks with their reflection on the water but the shot of the pup standing so majestically with the bushes in the background has to be my favorite. Thanks for posting!!

That means a ton to me, Rich. Thank you. It was a special day back in 2007. Chili was 3 1/2 years old and I had just been given a key to the ranch to hunt when I wanted to. It was the Saturday after Thanksgiving when the rancher drove up to our home and gave me the key. I took Chili down there on Monday for the first time. What do you do or say when it takes just 5 minutes to fill out with a limit of 6 gadwalls and widgeons? (that is when we had water) I was hanging around to see when the mallards would come in if they did. They did. I happened to glance up at Chili and saw that light on her while she stood there as steady as a rock. By the way, Rich, the last shot on this thread of the beaver pond with my decoys in it----that is also at this ranch. The two spots are about a mile apart.

Took these pictures out at this private ranch about 2 or 3 years ago in January when I got lucky and shot these three great looking drake gadwalls.

Your photo's are one reason why I keep coming back to the site. Great shots!

I am getting pretty excited about our upcoming duck season just because it will be time to try and wear out the camera a little. Thanks for those comments, William.
