I bought a sneak box and just got a noterized bill of sale what is needed to make boat leagle in the state of nj

Does the boat have a HIN number? (Hull ID Number) If it does not, you probably will have to get it looked at by the state marine police, who will sign a form deeming it 'seaworthy' and then you will be given a HIN number and plate to affix to the boat from the DMV.

And once you get what Craig mentioned squared away take the paperwork to a DMV that is used to registering and titling sneakboxes.

Yes, what Brian said!

I went to a different DMV than usual last week to register a boat I bought out of state. I had everything in order, but the DMV employee was confused as how to register a boat. After an hour of wasted time I left and went to my normal DMV and was done in 20 min.

The boat is a 1952 so I haven't looked but I am gonna say no HIN. If there isn't one what then thanks for all the help

I don't think its been reg before I pick up the boat tomorrow if it has I know that will help so my fingers are crossed but what to do if no hin and never been reg I wil call the dmv tomorrow thanks for all the reply

if it was never reg and no hin #, take it to the marine police barraks in a.c. then you will have to goto the dmv at the shore mall with the paperwork from the staties.

DMV in NJ is horrible. Do as mentioned above....and goodluck. LOL!

How can the boat be a 1952 and never registered?

As long as it was previously registered and better yet if you can get the old registration card (I had it) you will be fine. I went through it and being that the boat was previously registered in NJ made it a 10 minute DMV trip.

10 minute trip to DMV?? Maybe it was a dream! LOL!

The only time I ever had a 10 minute trip to DMV was to register a brand new trailer that I bought from a boat dealer. My sneakbox needed a notarized letter, even though I had the old registration.
