How to ship a duck mount?

I would like to mail a flying mallard mount from MN to California.

Any suggestions on how to package it and/or any other considerations?

Thanks!

I have built a crate/box out of card board, 3/4 x 3/4 wood ( ripped on a table saw) and a little plywood. Then screwed the object that the bird is mounted to, piece of drift wood in some cases, inside the crate/box... PM me as it is a bit involved.

I send mine out of state to have them mounte. when they come back to me they are in a sturdy cardboard box with screws drilled into the base. Then styrophome peanuts dumped in. A little dusting and any particles of the foam blow away.

And.........a great and safe way to ship them is with Greyhound Package Express (GPX)

Drop it off at your local Greyhound Station and the recipient will pick it up at his local Greyhound Station.

Make sure there is plenty of packing like bubble wrap and craft paper. If you go UPS their first 100$ is free, and I would be sure to insure it for what it is worth.
