Hunting/fishing license data hacked into, in three states

Anyone else get a letter from “Active Outdoors” in the last week or so?
Last Saturday I received a letter stating that the data base for hunting and fishing licenses in three states had been hacked. The states involved were Idaho, Oregon and Washington.
My personal info including name, address, date of birth, and driver’s license number along with physical description may have been subject to unauthorized access.
The letter all looks legit and is not a scam as they are not asking for any info or action on my part. The letter is merely a notice of the breach and the resulting actions available to me due to this breach.
Just curious if anyone else had received this letter also. In case you are wondering who or what “Active Outdoors” is, they are a processing center, based in Texas, which processes the license information for the above named states. I am among the group affected, due to my purchase of a Washington hunting license for the “Old Farts Hunt” in Washington several years back.

Yes it's a legit letter. I received one. It was widely reported here by the State Game Dept. as well as the local news sources.

I don't think any unauthorized use has been detected......yet.

Greattt. This info breaching is really getting annoying. I work on numerous government places every week, Ports, Refineries, Power plants. I shell out my info daily through my drivers lic TWIC, Capt lic, SSN. Makes me wonder when its going to get hacked... they say its secure, I call bs.

Shoot, some states will SELL your contact info once you are in the system. Lots of retailers and political operators want access to a list of known hunters or anglers. I recall some discussion about this in the past here in Maine, and I think our online license sales program now has a place where you can opt out of them providing your name and contact info, but I honestly can't remember if I've checked the right box. Based on the mail I get from Cabela's, LL Bean, and various gun-related political groups, probably not. LOL.

Our nation's cyber security is far behind the skillset of hackers. The gov has really lost site of the enemy when it comes to hacking and theft of Personally Identifiable Information (PII). Education of the public to safeguard their info is non-existent. I wish we'd wage a war on hackers akin to the war on drugs and pound the Chinese and other foreign nations with sanctions when they don't assist us. Sadly the only presidential candidate to grasp this huge issue was John Kasich and he fell way short in the public as a presidential candidate. It's going to get worse before it gets better...

Being a Fed and having BCBS insurance, all my PII is in the public domain by now. I have five free ID monitoring services. Two of those are for the rest of my life thanks to OPM an my agency.
Now, thanks to buying a 3-day Idaho fishing license at a Walmart in 2004, I have a sixth ID monitoring service.
Going through the process of buying a home has really tested their systems.

It was published in the last New York Outdoor News. Thankfully NY was not involved. Ain't technology grand? When $$$$$$$$$$$$$ is involved folks figure out how to steal it.

Eric,
My game plan is to stay so poor that when someone steals my identity, all they get are my bills!

I'm sure some "American" imported from the bowels of hell in Syria has already been assigned as you, Dave, and is already tired of living the American dream.

lol.

Sorry to hear that Dave. Let's hope that's the least of our worries I hope what I read here is false. http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2016/09/republican-leaders-set-to-rubber-stamp-obamas-internet-giveaway.php

Well I got a couple of notifications too. Like Ray alot of my info is well known to the Chinese and Russian hackers already. It's interesting that the data taken was all before 2007. No financial info but lots of pii.
