Hunting Lake St. Clair Ont.

Wow! I've only seen 2 cans in my life and never shot one. I hear about people shooting them in my area. Maybe one of these days I'll get lucky. Are you hunting big water like a lake or on a river? Do you set up specifically for cans, divers, puddlers, or combination?

We were in the boat blind, pulled tight against some reeds. We were indeed blessed on our two day hunt.

Decoys were set out in a lazy "U" pattern with divers on both legs and puddlers at the base. We set out roughly 125 decoys. This was my second year hunting St. Clair with a guide, we drove up from NC to Ont, Canada about 13hrs each way, but well worth it.

Arthur,
that is a very nice bag of Cans. Looks like the shoot of a lifetime for many of us.
Do you have any more pictures of that boat? It looks like a cool blind set up on it. Do you know if it was built by the guide or at a factory?

Thanks again for the info and welcome.

And welcome to the DHBP!

Bob:
I will look for more pictures of the boat; The blind was made by the owner he used rebar and wire mesh covered with tarp and cedar boughs for cammo. The boat was a 18ft aluminum semi v, with 40hp tiler engine. The decoys were stacked on the front held in place by a mess net, all in all it was a functional set-up. When were seated only our heads were above the blind easy to stand and shoot.

Congratulations on a "dream" hunt. Anyone willing to drive 13 hours one way, deserves the right to have a fantastic hunt. Glad you found a spot that made those memories etched forever! Thanks for posting that cool picture.
Good job, Arthur.
