So what are your thoughts on this bird.
I spoted it today while checking out some spots I have not hunted this year. It was close to open ocean.

well as long as they don't start making magpie crosses with mallards.....that cross would be so smart that they would never decoy.....

now seagulls and mallards are sort of similar....live anywhere and eat anything.....just wonder how seagull decoy....

I know what ya mean Al pretty soon all ducks will have 4 eyes and there will be no way we will get any shooting in !! HA HA HA

I'd say she's a Leucistic hen Mallard. Neat bird. We have one that's been coming around for the past 3 years in the spring to nest. Unfortunately as far as I'm aware, her eggs never hatch. We've found several abandoned nests in a few different neighbor's flower beds over the past few years. She's not as light as that one, but VERY fair in color. She gets so close you can ring her neck. But.... I promised my little one that I'd leave her alone. She gets fed well around here (corn and white bread), but she definitely gets harassed by my Lab. Her suiter was new this past year. Before that, the drake was huge with a full double curl. This last one seems smaller and younger and is banded. I was considering netting him and seeing where he was banded, but I decided to leave them be. If he finds his way over my decoy spread it'll be a different story!

Here's a few links I dug up:

Ha Ha Ha. Your dog is like "what the heck man?" Just an idea on the band. Since you can get so close to the bird use your camera to take photos of the band (digits). I did that with a video camera once in a different state on a Canada Goose and reported it as a sighting.
